A repeat of my earlier post so it doesn't get lost on the previous page:

OK, Europeans -- time to call you out.

HANNAH!
DAFTTART!
OLIVIER!

Check your email and confirm your link in the Flag Chain!

(Hell, PHATY has confirmed! Do you really want to be shown up by phaty?!?)

Gina's on a pilgrimage, so she gets some leeway -- but from the rest of you I need a "go" or "no go." Speak to me, people.

Thanks,
Mission Control

Hi, gomezkiller.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm afraid the flag is en route to Toronto and Boston (respectively) during your show dates. (Unfortunately, we have to plan around the abilities of the postal services, which means the flag just can't make every stop.)

Thank you, though. And welcome! Be sure to come 'round and join in the fun/chaos/psychosis!

Hi DM,

Sorry for not confirming before now - I thought I already had - doh!!

I've also PM'd you to say that I'm a definite for Twickers and I'll sort the details out with Hannah.

My PC went bang a few days ago so I haven't seen any posts about the flag's travels, so I'll catch up now :D

Umm....

Add cpriddims to Miami, Baby!!! :D

Who has it in Tampa? I have no problems handing it off if someone already has it. Besides, my wife will get embarassed if I break it out during the show there. She HAS let me go to three shows. Oops. MAKE THAT FOUR INCLUDING THE FRONT ROW MIAMI! WOOOOOOOOO!!!
Bonnaroo, Miami (front row), Tampa, Atlanta, SAVANNAH!

No one has Tampa, CP. But I have to see how things shake out with the acoustic gig before committing to anything but your Miami show. (Getting the flag from Miami to Cleveland in time may be scary.)

I'll have to wait until TP announces the Unplugged winners before I can tell you how we're proceeding (I'll email you my phone number, etc., since I may need to let you know while you're in Florida.)

The newly tweaked schedule for (whoo-hoo!) CP:

7/16 - Cleveland (nancyrose & DirtyMartini)
7/22 - Toronto (nancyrose)
7/28 - Boston (Skip)

YO, FLAG-BEARERS! Reminder: Don't be an asshat please

Postby DirtyMartini on 03 Jul 2007 18:41

I need to gently remind all of you gorgeous Flag-Bearers about a bit of flag-waving decorum.

So far you guys have acted wonderfully. We have had no complaints, and the flag has not been confiscated. Spec A! may have gotten a wee enthusiastic (*ahem*) in Houston, but he acted courteously and avoided blocking the view of his fellow audience members. He did a great job.

Going forward, please just keep in mind that people have been waiting a long, long time for these concerts and have spent their hard-earned dough to attend. Everyone deserves the best possible concert experience. Neither you nor I wants some disrespectful asshole blocking our view of The Police; we certainly do not want to do that to anyone else.

STEWART would not want us to do that to anyone else.

Remember that we're doing this krazy flag thing as a tribute to Stewart, to remind him that he has people in the audience who are there not just to support the band but to support him personally. That's a pretty amazing gesture by a pretty amazing bunch of people. But because we are carrying HIS colors and HIS insignia, everything that we do -- despite the fact that Stewart is not personally involved in this project -- reflects on him. We do not want to do anything that will risk killing this project; but more, we do not want to do anything that might reflect badly on Stewart. I like to think that Stewart might be pretty proud of this little flag of ours, but we need our actions to earn that pride. We need to make sure that we deserve that pride.

In the excitement of the moment, it may be difficult not to want to fish for and keep fishing for a thumb's up or a stick-point from The Man. I know that. But just when your brain has turned into goo and adrenaline is when you most need to be aware of how your actions will affect those around you -- and how they will affect Stewart by association. In that moment, you need to ask yourself, "What Would Stewart Copeland Do?"

Answer: He would tell you not to act like an asshat.

I know that every one of you is capable of acting accordingly. As a reminder and to applaud folks for exhibiting restraint, I'm going to keep bumping this thread. Retroactively, please allow me to say,

DIVEMISTRESS! Thank you for not acting like an asshat!

BELLA! Thank you for not acting like an asshat!

SPEC A! Thank you for not acting like an asshat!

GINASUPERCAT! Thank you for not acting like an asshat!

And going forward,

CPRIDDIMS! Thank you for not acting like an asshat in Miami next week!

I am touched and overwhelmed by the efforts that people have made for this project. You each have my love and gratitude for turning that silly little flag into a symbol of support, friendship, enthusiasm, generosity, and devotion. I know you will make Stewart proud. You've already made me proud.

Thank you,
DirtyMartini

Lol, obviously people are holding out on the really good pics that would contradict your asshat thesis...Just kidding! I took my responsibilities as seriously as Jason Statham in the Transporter...no questions, guard package with life, etc. although I didn't have to take anyone out, at least, not yet <grin>

I had the flag with me on the bus at all times when I had it, in my small instantly grabbable carry on I kept at my feet that included my laptop so it would have been covered even in the completely unforseen bus evacuation scenario. Only clothes and shoes went into the bermuda traingle of Greyhound checked under-bus luggage! That's how seriously the flag duty was taken...<grin>

The stakes are only increasing as the flag goes to more shows and has more irreplaceable signatures, etc. so always remember the First Law of the Flag is Flag Survival!

And good thing, too, thanks to that unforeseen bus evacuation scenario that arose!

FYI, y'all: So far the markers DM sent along are working great and are not bleeding through. The front remains pristine, pretty much. There's still plenty of real estate on the back, as well.

One trick that worked for me: roll up the top a little bit so you can get a good grip on it when waving. Stewart can't really look around during the set (he's working his ass off up there), but they turn the lights way up in between the encores, and that's a good time to hold it up. You can pull it up under your chin without blocking the view of folks behind you, and he'll be able to see it.

Watch for drumstick points, which he may do if he spots it during the set.

Have a good time! Everyone around you will have a blast asking you about the flag. Telling the story is half the fun. ;)
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!
