How much would you pay to see the boys play Synch 1?

Back to he topic.... I would like to hear it but without the backing vocals it wouldn't be justified.

How about Omega Man. That's the one I want to hear. Or Ms. Gredenko

RE: the backing vocals--not sure if you were following events around the time of the Grammys jeff, but Stewart actually threw the question open to the fans during the announcement gig at the Whisky. There was a fair amount of discussion on here about the pros and cons-- I argued pretty strongly against the samples on the grounds that they would have to use a click.

Without taking too much credit, there are two things I suggested that I think Stewart may have taken under advisement--one was that he and Andy should work with a vocal coach, and the other was that if samples were used, it should be them sampled, and not just Sting. Both of those happened.

Unfortunately, they felt the need to use the samples quite a bit. I think they could ditch them on a lot of the stuff without losing much, personally.

Yeah, tough to say without hearing the options.

It's funny, but my view is that the entire concert experience was so good, that these little details didn't distract from it at all. As I said, I'd go again in a second. :)

I think Stewart posing the question to the audience was a bit of a moot point. First of all, I'm sure it was already decided to use samples. Hell, they did the night before (and that day) on "Roxanne." Secondly, it's for the band to decide, not the fans. I say that as a fan. It's their gig, not ours. That being said, I appreciate Stewart asking and connecting with the fans for input, but we're not the ones playing the shows.

I've listened to countless bootlegs in the past and Andy and Stew never really cut it on BGVs (that's Background Vocals in music speak, folks  ). True, it was great to always hear Stew belt out "Just take a seat they're always FREE," but still...

Also, I hated the female backgrounds on Synch just as much as I hated the horn section on the Ghost tour. To me, I don't think the sampled backgrounds are intrusive. If they're using Logic to fly in the vocals, you have much more freedom to bring them in and out versus Pro Tools.

Plus, using sequences and loops gave Stewart a chance to do programming, and honestly, "Walking In Your Footsteps" sounded like it had some of the percussion from the original recording and I thought it came off great.

I would have loved to hear "Rehumanize Yourself" and I'm pretty sure they rehearsed it.

"One World" would be cool, and fly in Sting's sax section from the recording. Just on the riffs. They can arrange it anyway they want to.

Amen on both counts.

The samples don't bother me live -- I haven't found them to be intrusive. But I can't help but note this:

I mean, come on! How can you not love that?

I totally understand and respect their decision, of course. (I certainly wouldn't want to be singing while drumming like a maniac.) As you said, it's THEIR gig. But I do admit that I miss the live BG vox -- it was a part of the charm. "I always play the STA! RING! ROLE!"
