Second Leg Of Tour Late 2007?

Postby Krokodyle on 22 Jun 2007 16:05

So I see that thepolicetour.com shows that in November 2007, more U.S. dates have been added after the European leg of the tour. Is this just a few dates they've added, or has there been news/talk of coming through some of the states again?

I'm hopeful they'll return to California...

Well, even though just a few are showing up now Sting hs been saying "see you again soon" or "see you later" at some of the shows (think it was Seattle? Denver? I know he said it at Roo, but I remember a few other references) and so it looks like it will be a fair number, just from my guess.

It's really tough to say.

Think of a tour as a business. Any business requires some amount of speculation: how many customers do I project will be interested in my product? How many component parts should I buy, and how many employees can I hire so that the amount of products I sell will be profitable?

Moving this analogy to a tour, you have to think, "How many people have I already played to? How many folks will want to see us if we come back around?"

Doing a large venue tour is tremendously expensive. Imagine, if you can, the cost of transporting all that audio and video equipment (as well as the stage), as well as paying all of your techs and roadies and other crew. Let's not forget about how much it costs just to use a venue like Dodger Stadium or Madison Square Garden.

You have to have really good accountants who can do the math and determine exactly how many tix that need to be sold to make it a worthwhile venture. By all signs, it would seem that this 2007 Police tour will be the highest grossing tour of the year, which is great. I'm really happy for them. At the same time, as much as we hard-core fans would welcome another swing through our respective areas, it might not be the best business decision for the band.

So... we'll see!

Sure, that's understandable, but it's also their choice (of course, I'm sure that 'they' aren't really just the band themselves). They could easily swing back around and play *slightly* smaller venues on a 'second leg', if they wanted to, and it would still be successful, still turn a profit. (It's not like their current stage setup needed any special space requirements...).

Sure, I'm being overly optimistic and simplistic, but I can't help it...I just want to see California show up on that "New Show Announcement" email from thepolicetour.com SOOOO badly.

He did say, "see you again" in Seattle.

But to crisscross the US again after Europe! I don't see it happening.

Diminishing returns!

I agree, and I would love that more than life itself. Seeing the Police in a venue that held 500-1000 people? I think I'd trade my left nut for that.

Anyone need a left nut?

Keep in mind Sting also thought Bonnaroo was the name of a town. So grain of salt.

But Jeff, I would totally trade your left nut for an small show as well. Thanks for the offer!
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Sure, it's anyone's guess at this point and it's not just up to them...I didn't take the Bonnaroo, TN comment as a Sting-out-of-touch moment but more like an acknowledgement of the happening...it is kind of it's own temporary utopian city, ya know kind of when they announced Woodstock as one of the larger cities population wise...the Tenneseans comment, another story, but heh, I dunno <grin>

Whenever I get depressed about them never playing a small show again, I put on my recording of them at The Rat in Boston, 1978. Must be about 10 people in the audience...

Well, I keep reading that the tour is supposed to go thru March '08.
And, there is still quite a bit of the US they haven't hit. I'm waiting on DC and there hasn't been a San Diego show (and quite a bit of the southeast). Those are pretty big omissions. They only *just* scheduled Atlanta. So, I think there is more coming. I wouldn't expect more MSG's or Dodger Stadiums before they hit unvisited venues, though.

Keep hope alive.

If they announce ANY new shows in California, I will be there, and DAMN the expense! :D

Actually, I'd probably go to any shows as long as they're in a day's (even a FULL day's) driving distance. This means that Nevada or Oregon is open I suppose. If they play Washington state again, I may have to consider my ban on flying...

I would imagine that their 2nd US leg will not be nearly as extensive as this one... that said, I would imagine they will certainly play at least one night in S. California... given my current financial situation, I sure hope they don't announce any Southern California dates anytime soon, though...

:?: I read that the tour is supposed to til March '08, and there seems to be a North American leg happening on this tour, but aren't they going to travel to South America, Asia and Australia as well?
