Bonnaroo - setlist / reports etc

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 18 Jun 2007 18:36

I keep waiting for Coco Sumner to update her Myspace page (just do a Google for her name, you'll find it). I really like the stuff I've heard from her so far.

[quote="tj7"]The one flaw in the Police's last few tours, the one single flaw, was that they stuck to one bloody setlist 99% of the time. Now, in the digital age, they must know that most of the shows this year will be heard by fans around the world. It would be demonstrative of insight into this technological wonderland of the new millennium for them to throw a curve ball in there occasionally. They're into their toys enough to use tacky backing samples and autotuned backing vocals. They would do well to recognise that one show = instant unauthorised live album in this day and age. excellent!

Then we won't have the Police or any reunion.

I think it's been pretty clear from nearly ALL interviews/reports/etc this year that Sting is driving the van, whether we like it or not. We can piss and moan all we want here about the petty details and maybe Stewart agrees on some points, maybe he doesn't, but it's all kind of silly to me at this point.

I may not like every detail of how the shows are going down, but my petty dissatisfactions over an arrangement or set list are completely blown to the wayside by the mere fact of the tour going on in the first place. To put it another way, I am not going to rage over a drop of spilled milk when I've got a galloon still sitting in my refridgerator. If Stew & Andy are happy enough to be playing on this tour, I'm happy enough to be there in the audience. If it's not your cup o'tea, just chill and wait until they go back to their other projects.

The only problem is: I don’t drink milk

if you see what I mean.

Yes, but no one forced you to buy a gallon of milk in the first place.

Like I said, if not your cup of tea (or in this case, not your glass of milk), then wait for a change of course--or go back to the grocery store and buy something else.

I'll be quite happy seeing The Police this year, but I admit I'll probably be just as happy when the new Oysterhead record comes out!!!!! Yeeeeeeah!!!!!

(in other words, what sockii said...)

Andy keeps screwing up Message (and others) because he's playing 3 guitars he'd never even seen 3 months ago.

Bring back a guitar you know your way around and stop fiddling with the 18 settings on the VG..

Come on Andy......jeez

Could be that he's playing while he's walking out on stage, too.

I don't think that's true. He's barely touched the Fender Custom Shop replica Tele the whole tour. He's almost exclusively played that VG Strat, and he has plenty of experience playing a Strat. And I didn't see him screwing with the VG settings any more than he ever had to mess with pedal and rack effects during old-era Police shows.

The guy has a lot of sound to fill in a three-piece band. I'm the only guitarist in my band, and some tunes are scary for me to tackle in bars and clubs; I can't imagine doing it in arenas and stadiums.

From what I can tell, assuming that the VG Strat being referred to is the red one he's been playing throughout the tour so far, it's NOT a VG Strat. The red Strat he's playing is in fact a normal red Stratocaster... if you look at the photos on, say, Flickr.com, you'll notice that there are no additional knobs apart from the standard three Stratocaster knobs, as well as no Roland VG pickup next to the bridge of the guitar. What guitar synth-type sounds he's been using so far on the tour would be mainly attributed to an Eventide Eclipse mounted in his effects rack.

TRUE DAT.

And regarding the nitpickers, as Goldmember would say:

"A smoke and a pancake? You know, a flapjack and a cigarette? No? Cigar and a waffle? No? Pipe and a crepe? No? Bong and a blintz? No? Then there is no pleasing you, Mr. Powers!"

right on! i just think back to the feeling i got when i heard the rumors of the reunion and then finally saw them at the grammy's and then got the final announcement. it was glorious just to know that i would finally get to see them. something i thought would never happen and always said that it was the big disappointment of my life... seriously.

sockii, i'm 99% sure that i'm going to the show at msg on 8/1, so count me in for the pre-show meet and greet!
