New Album Rumours? - Guitar World Article

Do you really think that adding two new songs to the setlist would have jammed the buzz on their reunion tour?

When "Don't stand '86" was released as a single, it was quite a flop... But the "Every breath you take" compilation was a huge hit. I cannot think 2 songs in the 2007 setlist would have changed that much the reunion tour, which is mostly based on greatest hits.

I'm not sure there will be anything after this tour, except maybe an unplugged album & a live album (including 1 or 2 DVDs)... well, that's not too bad for a band who disbanded 23 years ago!
But I don't really care, they're back for 2007 (and 2008?) and I want to enjoy the present time.

Let's say they have two songs they think are pretty good, and then they make a tentative plan to make a new album. The logical thing to do is to save those songs for the album.

If they have new material, why rush it? Better to save it for a possible new album. As far as reworking hits into new arrangements, give them credit for wanting to work together to freshen up the material. Better than bands that do reunion tours playing only note by note from the album. The Police are not a regular band. They are among the best, and because they do not settle for mediocrity. Their history of battles has been over how the music should sound. Better that they care.

Well, I remember they played some Zenyatta tunes during the Reggatta d'Eté in France, months before recording them if I'm not wrong? That's why I thought if they had new songs they would play them... But The Police are quite unpredictable! ;)

These days with the ability to record and post songs from concerts so quickly, artists are wary of playing unrecorded songs prior to official release for fear that they will spread to a point that sales might suffer. Springsteen and Dave Matthews are two that still will. It is not usually the artists but the record labels that discourage it.

I believe the MTV Unplugged show is already confirmed, is it not? I had heard the actual show was to be taped in or around Miami in the next few months. At any rate, us Police fans will have plenty of new product to salivate over in the next year and a half. I'm sure the DVD from this tour will be amazing, plus the reissue of Police Around The World, and hopefully they can unearth some hidden treasures from the Police Vault. I have to say, a new CD sounds enticing, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm sure whatever is out there will be released late Sept / early Oct for the xmas market.

The acoustic album too... I heard it was being recorded in July..

Hopefully there will be a clip of it on police.com
