Police Tour Merchandise...What's it like?

Postby Rusty James on 08 Jun 2007 20:25
On the merchandise subject, two comments/questions from me:

2. The program book - while I'm sure I'll shell out the money for it, is there much worthwhile for a printed-matter junkie like me? That is, are there any new/previously unseen/cool photos in it, or just a lot of the standard shots we've seen over and over again already...
Hey sockii, I have one of the new program books and it is a nicely printed piece (I'm a commercial printer/print snob by trade). Not a lot of newer pictures in it but the page near the back with the Tama add shows Stewart's kit and it's a beauty...all nice and sparkly and purrrddyy :!:

1. Could we please have at least ONE t-shirt with recent pics of the guys?! C'mon, let's show the world that this is not just a nostalgia tour by showing them up there as they are TODAY, not 25-30 years ago (the picture in Philip's avatar, for one, would be PERFECT in a t-shirt (if they just photoshopped Stewart up a little more prominently :D )
.
Yes. They are still hot. I want recent pics too, not just on the shirt but in the tour booklet as well.
Actually it depends on what you want. I thought the army Jackets were no longer the style, but the legionnare type hats were excellent! The green shirt was ugly--who wears green?! The mug was a rip, with a cheesy logo on it. The passes were kind of cool. I ended up with the band picture shirt (of them in action), not the synchronicity yellow, blue, red one (the faces on that one were awful, not very good drawings of the guys, didn't look like them very much). The band in action one I got was an older image of the Police but at least, unlike the new arrangements, it reminded of the energy I THOUGHT we were going to see at the show. It had all the dates on the reverse. The Vancouver venue one was tacky, the imagine wasn't really accurate of GM PLace and most would rather have the band on the shirt. Other than that, yes everything was pricey, but most shows are now. They will make double what they do at the gate on Merch. Hey, I bet not many have the sneaker Laces I have from 1981? LOL. They are cool, still in the package. Have fun concert goers, don't expect the old style of the Police and you will still have a blast! Otherwise, I actually saw a few people sit down and look bored stubbornly, rather than just have fun!
What's wrong with green? The bright green checkered shirt looks awesome. Also, it's nice that paople are using the merch forum to rip the new arrangements. That's creativity!

the above is me attempting to type but it's rather hard after my jaw dropping onto my keyboard at the notion of charging 125 for that jacket.

jennythenipper

we're talking about BRAND NEW stuff especially made for this occasion, not some worn army garbage

so you can buy your 20$ piece of lived-in filth

I'll buy the jacket which is worth its money

Dietmar

oh - and the tourbook had a few photos which were totally new to me, sockii, you know what this means

and some which were very rare

To be fair to Dietmar, Repro army jackets go for a lot more than $125 these days. Triple Five Soul, Diesel, Stussy, Abercrombie charge a fortune for military style jackets. The more worn and "lived in filth"Y the better.

And I actually think that particular collection of patches would be hard to come by.

I will look out for the tour book.

but I'm just sayin:

You can buy brand new non"live-in filth" (a new catch phrase is born!) at surplus stores too, for a lot less than $125.00--More like $60.

I noticed that they had 2 or 3 'official tour' looking shirts (those with the tour stops on the back) that appear to be ONLY available at the shows and not on TPT.com

Cool. I'll be looking to score one of those in Dallas...(tour shirt with the dates)

I'll tell you, tho. Are the marketing folks not aware there are about a billion 1980s Police t-shirts available? Count me in for one with modern photos.

Hell, we could print up some bootleg Modern Police shirts ourselves...I'm tempted.

I was "lucky" enough to get that long sleeved Broken Music shirt for $52 at one of the last shows. It is a very thin but comfy shirt that came with a certificate. I think I'd rather ditch the certificate and take $20 off the price, but that's just me. $52 was pushing it, and there's no way I'd spend $75 on it!

Unless the mug is totally hideous, I think I need to keep up my Sting mug collection.

I'm saving all my spare change for the program and uh, a few shirts. Ahem. I have a problem when it comes to the merch table.

Heh I kinda like the mod-ish hooded parka with GITM logo on it...The only thing I bought at the concerts was a Dress Rehearsal tee since I thought it would be the only thing I wouldn't see again but lo and behold it's in TPT store....kinda bummed because they were out of S at the show and so I had to get another size only to find out that they were fully stocked in all sizes on the web with a discount!! I had already worn the one I bought (for the entire 50 hour trip back home, mind you) so it's not like it was returnable <grin> so I just washed it a bunch of times and I like it...I'll have to carefully look at what they have at TPT before the next show to make sure I don't do that again <grin> even though they only showed up there in the store after I left for the concerts...

If anyone has bought show merch, can you take a pic of it and post a link here? That would be cool if everyone would post their new police wear on here so the rest of us can plan for what we want and how much dough to save up!
