I am a long time, loyal and totally devoted Police fan and attended the concert on May 30 in Vancouver. How would I describe this? Probably "messy but memorable". The memorable was what I was looking for by purchasing the ticket but the "messy" part was totally disappointing.

The sole contributor to making this disappointing was the ticket price tag. If I had paid even $70-80 I could live with the self-proclaimed mess but at $250 per ticket for me and my wife and a total bill of over $500 it was just too much and really put a damper on the whole event. The whole "let's start again" thing from Sting on Spirits in the Mat.World caused my fellow band-mate to say "what a friggin' train wreck!" There were others as Stewey indicated.

Hey guys, 2-3 months in rehearsal?!? Come on! You deserve to have your asses kicked! But hey, I'm probably 500 of the 20,000 that were there and my wife didn't even notice the glitches, so there ya are. Give me 50% refund and I'm OK with it all but $250 for that. Ok, there's my disappointing rant.

Anyway, it was just an OK concert at best. I liked Wrapped Around but it was tough to find something memorably good about it all.

Sorry gang - and I adore the Police, Sting, Stew and Andy - but it was an un-acceptable performance.

But see that's where I think you're lucky. You paid a mere $250 to become a part of rock history. You were at the infamously bad show, that Stewart wrote about in his blog. You will remember it forever and have a story to tell to boot. If things had gone perfectly, the anecdote wouldn't be half so interesting.

I can see your point, though. I think the inflated ticket price has upped the expectations and upped the possibility for disappointment. But stll its better than paying $250 for a totally forgetabble night.

I think what is "lame" is that people expect that the high ticket price was going to bring them perfection!

The ticket price is high because of market demand. Yes I can understand that someone would be a little disappointed if the show was not "perfect" in their eyes, but that's life. It is the beginning of a tour by a band that has not played "live" in front of an audience for a quarter century. They are also using a totally new in-ear monitoring system. The songs are all totally re-arranged for the most part. The band has a history of "heated debate". Anything could have happened!!

If anyone can honestly say that they have never been in a situation with a team of people where things started to go wrong and they couldn't get things back together....they are lying to themselves! This kind of thing happens...especially with all the pressure, and the totally new live setup.

This is not a case of not having rehearsed the songs (as the fan club show and opening night showed). You just can't predict, or eliminate the possibility that things can go wrong. It's LIVE Rock & Roll!!!

Anyway, if nothing else...it will make for a great "dramatic" segment in Trudie's reunion documentary!

If a show sucks it sucks for $2,50 or for $250 ... if one goes to a concert for value for money I think he should stay at home in the first place.

I look at this this way: the very early shows were for those in the areas and for those who had to see the Police as soon as they started, to see them immediately...that's the benefits of the early shows, to see them play together for the first time in 23 years, for that alone it is certainly worth it...

The later shows are for those in the areas as well but also for those who want to see the Police after they've gotten completely back into their groove--only something that one can get back to by touring again and building up, evolving, collaborating, etc. over a period of time on the road (rehearsals aren't the same, of course)...Sting, at the Fan Club show even begins with the acknowlegement of this point...and Stewart always said how they picked up steam during the tour and were in top form right off the tour...

I sure hope that those who got to see them early realize that part of the special benefit of the early shows was seeing them first, seeing them right at the beginning, as soon as they started, and that those who see them towards the end of the tour realize that although they may've heard alot about the shows that others have seen before them, that the benefit of seeing them towards the end will be that they'll be in top form...that's just not something that can be at the beginning....hopefully those looking for a peerless performance will get to see them towards the end (or at least somewhere along the line)...

Personally, I am lucky enough to get to do both, and will appreciate the shows not only for seeing them live but also for the different benefits that seeing them at different parts of the tour offer...

I think it's ok for people to say they were disappointed with the "lame" show. There has been a lot of hype about the tour and expectations are running v v high. I think it's brave for a fan to say that. It's honest. Just as it was honest for Stewart to write the post in the first place.

Stewart, I just hope you haven't got yourself into trouble for speaking the truth!

I haven't seen the ensuing press (that no doubt sensationaised the whole thing and dragged it into the gutter.) But in a way you can't blame the journos. It's an obvious tack to take - "build em up and knock em down" - classic tabloid fodder.

Anyway, I hope your post hasn't created bad feeling among the band and the rest of the team. It would be such a shame if it put you off writing posts here because it's doing that kind of thing that makes you who you are and why people warm to your personality.

Looking forward to your next post (soon I hope)

Sad performance that Wednesday night. Dissapointed was my only response afterwards.
You could make it up to the fans of Vancouver by adding a final performance here in Vancouver to finish off the tour. You make 2 stops in Toronto...why not back here? Vancouver should get better than that.
And for some to say maybe people didn't notice...We noticed!
