Prediction: tour may backfire & turn out a big bore!!

Postby Philip on 06 Jun 2007 00:23

hey georgygirl, I don't know if you where ironic, but this is exactly how it is : a sort a mega-mix of intentions.
The problem is, at that point, it's still not understandable if the Police take what they play for really serious, or if it's just a matter of having fun ?!?

If they really assume this bastard thinks, then Ok, lets considerate some kind of "baroque" attitude. In this case, they have to be freer, make improvisation and test a lot of new and even strange thinks.

At the moment it doesn’t mach my expectations.

I want to address the money grubbing issue

Postby Jennythenipper on 07 Jun 2007 16:49

I have to admit I was pretty shocked and horrified when I saw the ticket prices for this concert. I have kept myself away from the world of big arena rock shows for a while now, so I'm probably just out of touch with the real world. I looked at Prince tickets yesterday and they were in the same ballpark. And Prince is an artist who has been far more accessible to his fans than the Police. It just seems to me that they could put almost any amount of money on the ticket and I would figure out a way to beg, borrow or steal my way into the show. And they know that, I think and have taken advantage of it.

My police tickets are the single most expensive tickets I've ever bought. I could go see the three or four very good national touring acts in a small club for what I paid. Will it be worth it? Will I like the police three or four times as much as one of those less special bands? I don't know, but I suspect so.

I don't know about Prince, but Stewart is very touchy with his fans.

Hi Georgy!

i live in St. Paul, MN. I will see them at the Xcel center in July.

My comparison was that Prince has loads of concerts for his fanclub, many at his home studio-- he lets them come to his house, basically. Every concert tour he lets his fanclub members have a large VIP section down front and they are invited to an after party that he usually at least makes an appearance at. Sometimes he takes the stage and plays a whole other show for the few hundred people at the party.

I know Stewart is great and totally generous with his fans and this message board is proof of that. I just meant the Police haven't played live in 23 years, and so the pent up demand for tickets is much, much greater than that for Prince. And yet Price tickets are going for pretty much the same money as Police tickets. All this made me think the Police weren't so money grubbing after all and I'm just out of touch with ticket pricing nowdays.

I really don't think they are doing this tour for money. I know Sting could do about 1/5 the amount of work and tour on his own as a "bandleader" as he has done in the past.

thread origination, author

Postby wgtomlinson on 08 Jun 2007 17:34

I created this thread over 6 months ago to open up a dialogue and the overwhelming response has been wonderfull. The fact we can keep this at a discussion level & not make persnal attacks shows the quality of fans plugged into Stewart's site.

Motivation for the thread came about from a need to keep the Police firing buring bright. What am I saying? The Police have NEVER been like other bands, always mavericks. Their music (Stu's offbeats, Stings zanny lryics) to their mangement (lets go play in Egypt) the Police are it!

Simply putt, the Police are on a level like no other band - as most fans would agree. A half hearted tour would shatter the Police trajectory. In no way was it related, but I feel Stewart's "lame" thread was a part 2 of this one. Judging from the clips of June concerts on Youtube the Police are back in full force and any predications I had were $h1t! Yea. Eooowwoo

I saw the boys 1982ish (have to check Dietmars site!) and 1983 (don't have to check that was 9th of October in Berlin Eissporthalle) and even considering that everybody thinks youtube videos suck or don't reall show how cool it is I have to say I like 2007 much better. I mean the ghost tour ...... the brass boys in the background ... give me a break.
Syncronicity tour ... too many 80s things in the show ... ;)

They grew to something even better. I am very proud of Sting actually for shrinking his ego - on stage that is. He seems to melt in so well - after all those solo years that is incredible ...

I think we are right in demanding a high level but I also think they already prooved that they are still on top of THEIR game.
Leave it to the band to serve us the meals the way they want to cook it.
It is their recepies and they know what they do.
It is a Police concert and their downloadable catalog on iTunes!
