Prediction: tour may backfire & turn out a big bore!!

Postby howardhughes on 03 Jun 2007 09:46

my feelings at present are:

(I must stress i have only you tube to judge at present)

my delight at seeing them onstage together having a good time is reasonably comfortably overiding my other feelings.

I know i cant and shouldnt expect them to be the police of 20 something years ago.

In terms of the music it is fairly much along the lines of what i expected......for my taste generally too slow and not enough gusto......but that my taste.

love the end of every little thing she does.

when the world is running down. Classic! .....thats why they were the best band ever ! man can they rock when they want !

BUT......what on earth has happened to walking on the moon? .what is that?.....what is that supposed to be? ....one of my favourite songs ruined. Its so slow! so lightweight ! so tepid ! i want to get on the stage and shake them them all while slapping some vigour into them ! (not for real you understand)
the new version (from what ive seen of it) sums up all my fears about them and police-lite.

As i say though ...seeing the (potentially) best band in the world on stage together again is just fabulous.

any news from edmonton yet????

I agree. From the clips I've seen so far, and the fan reviews I've read, there is something not quite clicking at the moment. That's disappointing for all the people who are expecting a return to their glory days - however unjustified that is.

I was curious about something Copeland said about the style of the music. He said it was going to be "all new music". Why? I think there is an element of overkill with the rearranging of everything - I am guessing most people don't want that. Why keep changing everything? It simply ends up being counter-productive.

I would much rather see a set list far more faithful to the original arrangements and tempo's. Anyway, Sting gave us all a clue to his mindset on the rehearsal videos when he said he wanted things "improved". That kinda worries me slightly. When Sting says "improved", he really means "Stingified" and "jazzification".

Maybe (and I hope so) that things will change later on in the tour.

In many respects they must be in a real tricky position.

As incredible artists they gotta do what they feel is right for them (i certainly would if i were in their shoes) but they also in many respects they have gotta please the fans.

I wonder whether they are maybe trying to hard at present to innovate and make things new....i may be quite wrong.

I think they should just go for it every night !........after all the original verions of the songs weren't exactly rubbish were they?....whats the worst that can happen if they just blast stuff out every night ? .....apart from extreme fatigue that is.....haha.

I dont think also that a band can be rocking after 3 gigs of the first tour in 24 years........I think we are all rightly expecting them to be incredible but we really got to give them a bit of time to get used to it again.

Nevertheless.....i just cant express how cool it is to see them happy on stage together again........brings tears to my eyes.

Gawd bless 'em

I think THE POLICE re-invent themselves in a great way... as other fans said they sounded a mix of older and newer... I mean they are into their own POLICE style but charming...as they are a mature band and we are too... the bad way would be if they make the same as other bands that sounded the same as their top careers... you know "Rolling Stones", "The Who", "Pink Floyd" and a large etc...

Do you think they will play music as the same they did 30 years ago???

When they play "Ghost Tour" or "Synchro Tour" is the same some fans wants the first steps of THE POLICE that sounded punky and faster.... ( I like all the phases THE POLICE re-invented their music and this is one of their main characteristics )

I think all of us want to advanced in our careers, to developed and re-invented ourselves for not fall down in boring... I mean "Ringo" is the boring of "The Beatles" ( in spite is the funny one of the four) I respect your opinion, but I am free to say the title of your thread is the same boring as some press bad reviews about THE POLICE ( happily nowadays are less) and don't forget some lines of a past interview to Andy Summers... He told that if a reunion could happen he discusses with Sting and have a defined idea of what could be.

Regards,

JOSE

Just wondering. The camera angle sort of conveys a suicide watch/security/prison cam. Then there's the weights and the small bed.

Not sure about Bonnie and Clyde but you could blindfold me with dental floss in that pic

Are they as good as Bfore, Are they better ? , Are they worse ? Is ist Stingified ? Is it Policified ?....

Questions, doubts, frustrations....

But in my opinion The most important question that we must ask ourselves is :

"ARE THEY BEING AUTHENTIC, ARE THEY POURING THEIR GUTS OUT, ARE THEY BEING TRUE TO THEMSELVES ??"

If the answer is yes, then that is enougth for me.

I would hope so, but the whole tour could easily be seen as nothing more than a money maker. The whole Best Buy fiasco, the huge package deals, etc, etc.

I can see people's gripes, but in all honesty, I could care less. These guys are on stage again and I've only thought this was possible in dreams.

Well, in my personal point of view, all things that are related with "The Police" happening is just an hipermodern phenomenon, with influences of the end of hippie era with some touchs of postmodern avatgarde sounds...

I don't know if this text express how I'm perceiving it, since my humble fan point in the universe.
