Let your Team Copeland Flag fly!!! (Flag-Bearers wanted.)

Postby DirtyMartini on 03 Jun 2007 20:05

Want to hook up with fellow SC.netters AND show your support for STEWART at the same time? Volunteer to be a Flag-Bearer of Copelandia!

Some lovely Copelanders have volunteered to take my humble little flag ( http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b85/y ... b/flag.jpg ) on a trip ‘round the world. The goal is for the flag to fly at as many Police gigs as possible, gathering signatures of Copelanders along the way.

Eventually – assuming it survives – I’ll find a way to get it to The Stewart as the nastiest, rattiest, lovingest, most battle-scarred keepsake that Fiona has ever banned from entering the Copeland household.

In order to make this work, I ask that all volunteers agree to the following:

Flag-Bearer Rules

As a Flag-Bearer of Copelandia, I understand that I’m serving as a representative of Copelandia and thus must act accordingly. Therefore,

1. I promise to handle the flag as carefully as is possible/reasonable because I understand that it is not very well made and that it will need to survive a great deal of travel and punishment over the next few months.

2. I promise to restrict my flag-waving to appropriate moments (such as between songs and during curtain calls) out of respect for the view of fellow audience members and to avoid having the flag confiscated because I acted like a jerk.

3. I promise to willingly serve as a point-person to whom fellow Copelanders may gravitate so that said citizens may sign the back.

4. I promise to restrict Copelanders to signing their name/screen name ONLY on the back of the flag because I understand that in order to accommodate as many signatures as possible, space on this wee flag must be rationed.

5. I promise to mail the flag and its accouterments via expedited service (Priority Mail, FedEx, UPS, etc) to its next location promptly and well-packaged and to cover the postage costs therein required. I promise that I will NOT ship it via regular mail because of the risk of the flag getting lost, delayed, and/or mangled.

If you agree to the above terms and would like to volunteer, please send me an email with your user name, real name, address, and phone number (required for expedited mail service), and I will set up a mailing schedule. Also please let me know if there will be someone home to sign for the package or if it must be sent with no signature required. Please do understand that because of timing, it won’t be possible for the flag to go everywhere, but I will do my best during the tour hiatus to mail it to various locations for additional signatures.

Thus far, at the very least, the flag will be flying(/has flown) at

Vancouver
Bonnaroo
St. Louis
Cleveland
Madison Square Garden
Giants Stadium
London

Note: because this flag was a quick homemade job and not built for punishment, it may or may not survive the unique conditions of Bonnaroo -- so Divemistress will have to determine after Roo whether or not the flag is still in good enough condition to continue. After that, you have to figure that if it can survive Roo, it can survive anything.

And of course, it would be a hoot for folks to take a picture of themselves with the flag at their venue(s).

Thanks in advance for showing your support, Copelandia!

hahaha, brilliant <grin> MEOW! What kind of pen would not bleed through too much? I think sharpies are the sig pen of choice, but I'd hope it wouldn't go through to the front...

Looks like I am adding Dallasx2, Houston, New Orleans and Cleveland to the original lineup (also including Roo, Amsterdam, Tampa--not sure if still going to this one, hubby backing out, same with Virgin since it will be so very hot and I don't want to do that one solo)...TM still is selling behind-stage cheap seats for Dallas and New Orleans so I may be in the back (perhaps not optimal display area for the flag...but it would be close to Stewart!)...

I'm still considering the first stade de france show hard (on my birthday)...definitely will be at Amsterdam and I'm pretty sure Gio will be at there and I know Dietmar will be so I could take that show to make sure to get their sigs...

Let me know which ones you need me to cover and I will surely take care of it, it's a very important relic to me, as you know, being the official flag of the Vancouver Four, and I would care for it with all my Super-Cat-powers MEOW!!!

Whoo-hoo! Already got an email for Denver on the 9th!

Thanks, GSC. I would love it if you would do the Dallas/Houston/NOLA leg and Amsterdam. (When you confirm other dates, just let me know.)

Honestly, I don't expect that the flag will actually be SEEN by Stewart -- but it'll be nice to know that it was there. If he actually spots the damn thing, that'll be an awesome bonus.

I'll be testing out Sharpies on the fabric tonight -- I think a fine point Sharpie should be okay. I'll be mailing out a marker, a tube of paint and paintbrushes (in case touch-ups are necessary), and a metal ring (for hooking it to stuff by its gromets) with the flag so that people have everything at once. Once I sort out my brain, I'll put together an instruction and packing list to be included in the box. I'm trying to make it as painless as possible for everyone.

So now we've got:

Vancouver
Denver
Bonnaroo
Dallas
Houston
New Orleans
St. Louis
Cleveland
Madison Square Garden
Giants Stadium
London
Amsterdam

Cool!

I always said people here is so creative...this is simply an amazing flag-event! One flag for the whole world!

Keep it for the European tour as well, at the end we can give it to Stewart as an hommage from all the fans of Copelandia, waddayathink?

Yes, one flag is enough for all of us! <grin>

One question: should we sign it with our screen names? I'd think they'd be more recognizable than actual names (except the cases where they are the same <grin>)...

User/screen names make the most sense. You want folks to sign it with whatever name Stewart will most easily recognize -- which is most likely their screen name.

BRILLIANT IDEA!!!!!!

I'm guessing that Hannah is flag-bearing at Twickenham :D

If you need a back-up, I'll be there on both dates and in row 11 and row 5, so I'll happily wave the flag if Hannah can't take the strain

flag

Postby giovanni on 03 Jun 2007 22:06

I think we should all write our nicknames of this forum but I would leave it to each one of the flag-bearer.

This is like the Olympia games, you know the torch? Well, it's the same thing....until the end. The last one got to give it to Stewart himself, if he will be allowed; otherwise I can give it to him when I will see him after the Police tour.
I will try to be at the last show of the tour anyway, not sure yet of course, we don't even know where it is and when, maybe Australia? We have time to decide yet when, where and how to give it.
By now I can tell you that Tourin is ok, I will be the flag-bearer if you don't mind!

So now we've got:

Vancouver
Denver
Bonnaroo
Dallas
Houston
New Orleans
St. Louis
Cleveland
Madison Square Garden
Giants Stadium
London
Amsterdam

You guys are gorgeous!

The logistics of Denver to Bonnaroo might not work -- but if it doesn't, that's okay and I still thank my Denver volunteer!!!

Thank you, sockii, Gio, and Helen! Helen, I'm sure you and Hannah could work out some kind of joint custody for Twickenham. Thank you!

GIO, I kinda figured that I might need to rely on you to get this thing to Stewart in the end -- so I am grateful for your offer. But I'm going to just push that problem off for now and concentrate on making this mailing schedule work. It's a big enough beast.

EVERYONE WHO HAS VOLUNTEERED, please remember to email me your vitals (user name, real name, address, phone number, whether or not someone will be home to sign for a package when it arrives at your house).

BTW, this is such a great idea - I was just thinking on the drive out to the craft fair this morning to suggest something like this. Good to know great minds think alike.

Right on, sockii! Hannah's the insane genius on this one. I only wish this had been planned ahead -- cuz then I would have made it better and made it bigger!

I am seriously worried that there isn't going to be enough space for signatures. A super-fine Sharpie won't show up, and a fine-point is still not very thin -- so people are going to have to be really aware of the need to conserve space. So everyone, for the sake of my sanity, write small!
