Why is "Next To You" off the setlist???

Why is "Next To You" off the setlist???

Postby yobculture on 03 Jun 2007 17:37

Why on earth did they take this song off the setlist?
Does anyone have the scoop?
It was a brilliant closer that left the audience in a frenzied, delirious state!
It was the most exciting moment of the night!

Ending with "Every Breath You Take" is a TERRIBLE idea!

Is Sting punishing Stewart for the "petulant pansy" remark?

As I mentioned elsewhere, I can imagine that since "NTY" is the second encore, it may be saved for the shows that require (or perhaps deserve) it. A second encore is one of those optional moments that requires a riot.

(Which is another reason I think "EBYT" and "CSLY" should be switched. But again, that's just me.)
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I don't know if this may have a bearing as well, but one of the attendees at TPT indicated that the show was running like 15+ minutes later than the regular timeline because of the opening acts, etc...it could just very be this particular night could not accomodate another sing...

yobculture I'm with you. NTY works for me. It should start the show. And let them ad 1 or 1 other songs from Outlandos... and leave definitively the too much heard EBYT.

by the way, I noticed that you anounced the date of a show in Wembley long befor the reunion was oficial, right? How have you known about it?

Oh, I made that poster when the rumors first appeared.
I made the date up. I need to update my avatar!

I hope they put NTY back into the setlist by the time I see them in Oakland!
Taking it was such a lame thing to do!

Seeing further reports, it sounds like NTY was just a victim of circumstance...someone was explaining that Edmonton noise restrictions kick in at 11 and they went off stage after the three-encores just a few minutes before 11...so I'd imagine y'all will see Next to You at other shows, there just was no time this time <grin>

Oh Gina, if they haven’t respected the schedule, no need to send the police, cause was already there.

And imagine the same happening in Germany:

“well, show me your “Ausweiss”, you where to loud”… and Dietmar take them to his jail.

I've never been a big fan of "Next To You." And certainly not as a closer. My pick would have been "So Lonely." BUT, having said that and having heard snippets of "Next To You" on the 'net, I'd like to see them tack "No Time This Time" on to the end of it. It would seem a perfect fit as they are speeding NTY up at the end. Most of all, I just want to see (and hear) Stewart play that song. First class tornado indeed!

And yet it fits perfectly with that recent interview with Andy in which he said something to the effect that they were advised to only play the hits. It certainly contradicts that shot "Rehumanize Yourself" on the music stand from the Vancouver rehearsals, as well as that bit of (presumably) "Low Life" from the rehearsal video footage that appeared over at tpt.com. And not to mention Sting's lecture in Bring On The Night about how he likes to surprise his audience with half a setlist of stuff they've never heard.

Simply put, "Next To You" has got to be one of the best Police songs in their repertoire. I feel fortunate to have seen it performed twice last week and both versions where bitchin' bloody awesome. :!:
Played just like I expected...fast, faster followed by steam rollin' get the hell out of the way if you can't handle it fastness. :D
Ending with "Every Breath..." this would be...well...downright anticlimactic.

Believe me, nobody would have the guts to do that in Germany.
We might be famous for having a lot of laws and orders, but we also know how to bend them.
On the other hand, Dietmar guiding them to his jail would make him immortel - even more then he already is ... !
Reminds me of my favorite German band Rammstein who was arrested in Boston for faking sex on stage (not sure if real one would have been okay!) but then being left alone in Texas for the same acts. The local sherrif was asked why and he said: "Good show - no penetration!"
