>OY! What a bunch of numb nuts.

SERIOUSLY! How can they spout all of that crap and then have the original post right there for everyone to see for themselves?

Some days I really fear for reading comprehension levels today...

Once again, *headdesk*

Unbelievable..this guy just piggybacks Stewart's personal remarks about the concert and writes a report with his name on it! If I were Stewart I would claim copyrights!!!

Seriuosly, this guy should be reprimanded by Reuters. at least they should know what to do about quoting like that. In addition to this, many people who are genuinely interested in music will log on here and see for themselves..who is this cool drummer who dares to break to rules of showbiz like that? pretty encouraging that thought.....

Oh brother. Now it's on the front page of Yahoo, as THE top story. I'm telling you, the next thing coming down the pike is the phony outcry over his use of 'pansy'. I'll bet a ticket to the Halloween NYC show that it comes up in the press.

any takers???
Thanks Stewart!

The German website laut.de correctly quotes Stewarts remarks, sees the fun of it and also gives a link to SC.net. Very well done!! So all is not lost on you journalists:-)))

I'm sure STEWART is laughing it off with resigned recognition - after all, he's been through all this crap before. Different media, same scenario.

But I did wonder why I was having trouble with the message board today and now I know why! That's kind of cool if thousands swanned in here and read the real thing from the horse's mouth - if they read the whole article there's no way they could have misconstrued his tone.

Yep, it is! I just read it and it is correctly translated and quoted! So no sweat it is dead funny and non-English readers get the gist of Stewarts commentary and can come and look it up for themselves here when they like it;-)))

Thanks for the welcome..I was lucky to meet Giovanni back in October in berlin to Sting's lute gig and now, I have to post on 3 even 4 The Police & Sting related websites...! I will manage. BTW I met Stewart one day later and had the privilege to talk to him a bit and he is just every bit as cool in reality as he is on the board.....Alas I won't be going to any Police gig in germany because I have no money and just in that week I have a very important exam to pass...I will be happy collecting bootlegs and videos from YouTube though and read all the nice posts on the boards:-))

I have no doubt. But seeing it as the top story on Yahoo *is* a bit freaky.

Good thing Copelanders are such a fierce, mighty, and loyal lot. I'm sure this thread must tickle SC enormously.

Thanks, Anne! Good to know there's some sanity out there somewhere.

That's wonderful that you've had the chance to meet both Gio and Stewart. Too bad that you can't make the Germany gig! If the timing doesn't interrupt your studies too much, you might want to look at the last minute for a second-hand ticket. You might luck out with something inexpensive in Germany or perhaps in another nearby venue.

Good luck! And again, welcome and thanks for jumping into the fray! Of all days to make an appearance, you picked a doozy.

Well, it is ok, tomorrow this dumb Yahoo guy gets his bashing by all The Police fans out there:-) No doozy tomorrow for sure...

That is certainly in my plans try to find a second or last minute ticket in case my exam is before the 10th October (Mannheim gig), but just now I can't tell because I have to wait for the results from that written exam before I can get to the oral exam....at the end of September..waiting sucks big time:-((

Copying this in toto cuz I think you guys will be glad to see it.

A (rare) voice of sanity who has not only read SC's original post but who describes this whole idiotic press firestorm as "bollocks":

Dissecting Stewart Copeland
Updated 14:43 PDT Fri, Jun 01 2007

Drummer Stewart Copeland recently blogged about The Police's two-night kickoff in Vancouver, which was picked up by other Internet bloggers and turned into a "The Police hate each other" story.

Hey - whatever drives up those page view stats, right?

Several music bloggers/news sites went to tabloid town on Copeland's assessment of the night, making it sound like he said Sting was a "petulant pansy" and that the show was "unbelievably lame." Could Copeland be leaving the tour in frustration?

Bollocks. If one actually went to Stewartcopeland.com and read everything in context, it turns out he was talking about the first-night jitters and flubs of any debut by any band. Turns out The Police have the same troubles as pool-hall favorite Marty Lloyd & The Union Jacks do.

"Andy (Summers) has started the opening guitar riff to 'Message In A Bottle' and the crowd is going nuts," Copeland wrote. "Problem is, I missed hearing him start. Is he on the first time around or the second? I look over at Sting and he's not much help, his cue is me - and I'm lost. Never mind. 'Crack!' on the snare and I'm in, so Sting starts singing. Problem is, he heard my crack as two in the bar, but it was actually four - so we are half a bar out of sync with each other. Andy is in Idaho."

The band lost track a lot and even had to restart one song, Copeland said, but they were professionals and pulled it together for the most part. During "Synchronicity," Sting makes a jump to cue the ending.

"Last night Sting did a big leap for the cut-off hit, and he makes the same move tonight, but he gets the footwork just a little bit wrong and doesn't quite achieve liftoff," Copeland wrote. "The mighty Sting momentarily looks like a petulant pansy instead of the god of rock. Never mind. Next song is going to be great - but it isn't."

At one point, Copeland goes to chorus while Sting goes to a verse. "This is unbelievably lame. We are the mighty Police and we are totally at sea."
The bloggers said Copeland is complaining the songs are too jazzy. What he said was that day-of-show the band decided to change the keys of two songs so, "needless to say Andy and Sting are now onstage in front of 20,000 fans playing avant-garde twelve-tone hodgepodges of both tunes. Lost, lost, lost."

And the blog ends with an inspiring coda, not the Copeland "I-hate-The-Police-rant" as advertised.

"When we meet up backstage for the first time after the set and before the encores, we fall into each other's arms laughing hysterically. Above our heads, the crowd is making so much noise that we can't talk. We just shake our heads ruefully and head back up the stairs to the stage. Funny thing is, we're enjoying ourselves anyway. Screw it, it's only music. What are you going to do? But maybe it's time to get out of Vancouver."

From Hannah's link:
As Copeland let go with a series of yells as the band was taking its final bows on stage, how was he feeling then?

"I was thinking of (excitable former U.S. presidential hopeful) Howard Dean, actually," joked Copeland. "One of the great things about rock 'n' roll, about concert performances in general, is unless you totally, totally suck, you know if people have been waiting in line and such, you win the game."
The Dean Scream! Haw!!
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!
