Rolling Stone - ugh what a rag. I used to subscribe, I got so sick of their writing. They have an EXTREMELY annoying need to compartmentalize every artist they write about by summing up what they say is their musical style in a few buzz words. The Police would be something like 'frat house reggae-punk' or something weak like that. From their latest online edition, here's some of their band-tagging terms they used

art-metal seriousness
pop pleasure
industrial metal
goth-pop
punk sludge
frazzled techno
tasteful pop
dance-soul
well-manicured pop
arena-rock
Thanks Stewart!

I heard from an american friend that we should be looking out for Drum magazine and also a Modern Drummer 2 DVD set from Stew's 9-16-06 performance. I'm not sure if the DVD will come with the magazine or if they put out DVDs separately - do any of the drum nerds know?!

Hannaha, the DVD's from the MD festival are released separately...I have a few from previous years that I got from Amazon (actually hubby bought one for my b-day <smile)...I subscribed to MD for a few years (have let it lapse, gah)...

I'm not the world's hugest fan of Rolling Stone either, tell you the truth. Mostly because they don't write about most bands I like (indies that don't sell billions of records). I'll make an exception for this issue, though.

I posted about the Modern Drummer dvds a week or two ago.

You have to order the discs separate from the magazine - either from their website or I think you can get 'em from Amazon.

The first disc has maybe 15 minutes of Stew's Gizmo performance (3 songs). The second disc has a 20 minute or so backstage interview with Stew - not so much new info for any of us here, though he does a little bit of technique demo, mostly on his stick grip and a little on the high hat.

It's nice to have, if you're fanatical (like some of us, *cough*) but I'd stull much rather have a nice Gizmo DVD/CD set to add to my collection next to my Orchestralli & Taranta sets, you know?

BTW, anyone going to the shows this summer w/$30 extra bucks in their pockets can pick up a copy of an Orchestralli DVD at the merch booth. Just FYI
