Stewarts comments main story on yahoo.co.uk !

Postby DirtyMartini on 01 Jun 2007 16:04

Sigh. This is what I was afraid of. But it was inevitable, so I can't be surprised:

Editorial adjectives aside, Goodman's article didn't lie.

This one, on the other hand, does: http://tinyurl.com/2bh9gb :

* "posted a harsh review of the band’s first two concerts"
* "has labeled the shows so far as “unbelievably lame.”"
-- GONG. He reviewed one show, 5/30.

* "Copeland also took a shot at Sting stating: “The mighty Sting momentarily looks like a petulant pansy instead of the god of rock.”
-- GONG. He wasn't taking a shot.

* "In the post, Copeland predicted more problems as the tour continues and explained: “It usually takes about four or five shows in a tour before you get to the disaster gig. But we're The Police so we are a little ahead of schedule.”
-- GONG. That wasn't a prediction of future problems. You have to be a complete moron to come up with that one.

The first guy's just a shill. But this second one is a wanker.
And you can quote me on that.

This guy is obviously a humorless twit who just doesn't get it...but somehow I'm not worried that he will force Stewart to muzzle himself in the coming months. Sort of brings to mind the "Let Stewart Be Stewart" thread from TPT.com a few months back...I don't think he would want to be, nor COULD he be, anyone other than himself.
(And isn't that a great thing for all of us who so appreciate him just as he is!)

OMG, these things happen everyday.... you say one thing, they write the opposite because
1) they are stupid and didn't understand what you said (let alone the sense og humor they were born without)
2) they "want" you saying different things from what you actually said.
That's what press is nowadays. And it happens on every media, it's not a problem of internet.

*waves at the 120+ guests suddenly appearing on the forum*

Guess it's all over the place now, isn't it? Well, at least hopefully folks are coming here and seeing the story the way Stewart REALLY told it, and not how the press is twisting it all up.

I think they just try to make blackmarket tickets in the UK cheaper to go there themselves ... !

Its a shame, I'd expect more from a Reuters wire story, but....journalism today is just a total joke. No one ever seems to doublecheck sources and "professional reporters" are always getting facts wrong. (to wit, Matt Drudge, so-called "journalist" of the right? And even Katie Couric apparently is guilty of plagarism.)

However, I guess it also is a sad reminder that anything written on the internet or in email today - even something clearly stated in jest - not only can never be fully deleted, but can be too easily manipulated by third parties for their own agenda. Caveat emptor, it seems....

Or in this case, Caveat scriptor.

But that sure is a lot of Guests.
And SC's got himself over 4500 hits in what? 36 hours?

Needless to say it DID make Stewart out to be far more pissed off than he came across in his original post here. Well, looks like it might be time for Gio to start looking into some new web servers!

Or even better yet, "caveat lector" <grin>

Well, maybe all the peeps checking out the site will see that the overall tone was not of "vitriol" as reported, which, honestly, I think was the grossest mischaracterization of the article and one that would completely mislead the reader in framing all the quoted material afterwards...mischaractrerizing the tone completely offsets the whole thing...

Yep. Stewart didn't actually say anything "sensational" at all, in the drive-by journalistic sense of the word...in fact, I can imagine him recounting that tale word for word in an interview.

If folks are this excited to read his comments, the Dinner Tales section will surely blow them away! (I just hope fewer people start showing up soon, the site is starting to run sloooowly...)
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!

I think this is pretty funny actually!

As the saying goes..."any" press is GOOD press.

The only real problem is that Gio's server seems a little slow with all the extra traffic.

Can you imagine how boring this tour would be if they came out and played all their hits exactly the same way and they executed them all perfectly! Actually there would probably be a major backlash about them being a prefabricated and calculated money making machine.

The fact that Sting continues to challenge the fans musically is what has kept him so relevant all these years. He's as much of a marketing genius as he is a musical genius.

The money's in the bank, and no one in their right mind is going to ask for a refund. If anything, this will only generate more interest in the tour and generate additional ticket sales.

Also, anyone with half a brain will take news they get from a single source off the internet with a grain of salt...especially if it is on a tabloid type site.

Most definitely him, too.

The "story" is now a headline on the main Yahoo.com site.

Never a dull day in Copelandia.

Good gods -- people are emailing this sucker to me from all over the country all of a sudden.

AOL's music page has the Goodman article, PLUS it quotes SC's post IN ITS ENTIRETY with a link that leads directly to the forum to SC's post itself: http://tinyurl.com/3awn5p
