Stewart Q&A in the May MOJO magazine.

Stewart Q&A in the May MOJO magazine.

Just a short interview for their "All Back to My Place" feature. I transcribed it below...

* * *

MOJO: What music are you currently grooving to?

SC: DJ Spooky gave me a bunch of his records and I like them. He's combined all kinds of urban hostility with beautiful, ethereal world elements. There's a cool artist called Jesca Hoop who's recording an album, too.

MOJO: What, if push comes to shove, is your all-time favorite album?

SC: Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland. It had the best drums and the best guitar. I would sneak into the language lab at boarding school to listen to it because I didn't have a record player in my dorm.

MOJO: What was the first record you bought? And where did you buy it?

SC: Help! by The Beatles. I was in Beirut and a friend of mine got it for me when he went back to the States for a couple of weeks.

MOJO: Which musician, other than yourself, have you ever wanted to be?

SC: Sting. Bastard can sing!

MOJO: What do you sing in the shower?

SC: I don't. I sing to the girls in the car though: (sings) "You're a little bunny rabbit and I'm daddy, we're all going out to play." I try to lead them in song to keep them from fighting. It doesn't work. I'm sure my kids will grow up scarred and demented.

MOJO: What is your favourite Saturday night record?

SC: Probably Latin music. Before I got satellite radio I'd just listen to Mexican radio and everything on it was great.

MOJO: And your Sunday morning record?

SC: Blondie, The B-52's or Jimi Hendrix. And whatever my girls play me. The boys got me into Leftfield and Squarepusher but they're grown up now. The girls are into horrible Japanese pop. The lamer it is, the more they get a thrill.

Wow, cool shout out to Leftfield. I wondered if he listened to much techno after listening to Spyro 4 which is heavy on the techno/trance/ambient side which I loved.

Thanks for posting this, Sockii. 8)

LOL, he torments his girls with his singing, and they torment him with J-pop. Sounds like an even trade to me.

(rubs eyes)

(checks again)

Hopping 3-D Jesus in a sidecar! I'm going to have to leave town more often...

(He's still got virtually my entire ITunes playlist on heavy rotation...which is why I'm always so hot to hear what he's listening to. I'm finding this Jesca Hoop person, stat.)

(Did anyone ever find his playlist from Punkspring? 5 bucks to anyone who can find a copy. I'm completely serious...)
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!
