Vancouver - party plans

Vancouver - party plans

Postby Mercury Rising on 19 May 2007 19:34

Well okay, here goes...
I will start by throwing out these suggestions, it's only a start, we can always bend and shift as needed....

Saturday May 26
6pm (or so) meet up at Subeez Cafe, located at the corner of Homer and Smithe (only 3 blocks from the Hampton Inn). It's a funky place with good food, great music and lots of charm.

9pm Fiction Plane takes the stage at the Plaza Club, 881 Granville St. (literally 3 blocks up from the cafe). I called the venue and 9pm is the time they gave me for the FP show start, there is an opening act too.

Sunday May 26
12pm - post show, at the Media Club, located at the corner of Cambie and Georgia, which is close to everything! There are posters all around town about this venue, there will be parties here during all 3 shows just for Police fans!

Let me know what you think and/or what else you're looking for.
cheers!

Great! I'll get there before fiction plane takes the stage at least (unless there are major flight delays) with time to check in real quick at the hostel. Do you know what the policy will be for cameras at the FP show?

heh...naughty Conroy is still stuck on those words: "and guests," I see <grin>

I think the SCnet ideas are cool! I have a question, in case anyone can help me...the SkyTrain, I heard, sometimes runs on a later schedule when something is going on about town...any idea if that will be the case for next weekend? Otherwise I might have to take the train back to Metrotown after the show (think last posted one is lik 12 or 12:30am), thereby missing the Media Club thingy that sounds fun post-show...thanks for any thoughts on this & cheers :)

Meeting at 6 before the FP show if OK. Just as long as we get to the Plaza Club (or whatever it's called) early enough to get a good spot to view '& guests." I don't want to get spazmoidal about that.

I'm pretty much open to ideas for gatherings for the other shows. I'd rather hang with the SC peeps, but I'm not ruling anything out. Fun is the objective!

Crap.

I can't tell you how much I want to be there with you all. Several of you gorgeous people had better get online IMMEDIATELY afterwards to report back. There may be tears in London that night. *sighs*

Love you lot. You mentalists. x

I agree. You'll be there in Spirit. I don't guess there's a way Stewart could arrange for us to blog live or anything could he?

Anyway, hopefully we can all met you one day, Hannah.

First, thanks, Mercury Rising!

Locations sound great to me, especially since I don't know squat about 'em anyway. The Media Club sounds like a really good after-show default for the weekend.

FYI: House of Blues finally has the "special guest" listed as Elias -- whoever he or they might be.

But in which case, would anyone mind if we move up meeting to 5:30? If possible, I would like to catch part of the Elias set -- I like to support opening bands cuz it's such a tough gig. Especially in this case, where he/they are opening for an opening band. (That really has to suck.)

He/they certainly won't hit the stage til 8 pm at the earliest, but with the time it'll take for us to assemble and get situated, have a leisurely meal, pick up the tickets, etc. . . .

(Otherwise, we can just shoot for 6 and I can always head over a little early on my own if need be. Doesn't bother me at all.)

Also, can we get a show of hands of who will join us? So far we're only 4 people -- are so few of us arriving on Saturday? If most of us are arriving Sunday, should we schedule a Sunday thing as well?

(Gak! Planning crap! Gak!)

PS -- Hannah, if you like I can print out your avatar and bring it with -- you and Dive could be represented in Vancouver in absentia. :D
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Do you know what I love about this site? Is that we all want to be so nice to each other and help each other out as much as possible.

DirtyMartini.... that was nice of you to suggest about Hannah and Dive.... Even if we are not there in person....

See nice!

No one is 'I'm going to 27 shows and have seen them 3 times before and......' Everyone here is just excited to share everything Stewart!!

Yeah.... nice....

(I'm still jealous... but happy for you guys fortunate enough to be able to go!!) My turn will come soon...

And just one question.....?

Do you have a photgrapher for your tour? Someone to get the shots of you guys enjoying it all?

Kim

Merc - maybe you could do a poll to see who's interested in meeting at Subeez on 5/26?? I don't know if you need to make reservations or if we can just show up. So we may need a ballpark figure.

YES! Make a massive placard and wave it vigorously! ;)
But you're all correct - me and Dive will both be there in spirit bouncing and singing along with all of you in your utter joy!

Attendance poll for Vancouver

Postby Mercury Rising on 20 May 2007 21:11

Ok, so far I've collected the names of the following excellent fans arriving on Saturday May 26 and willing to meet up:
myself (Mercury Rising)
GinaSuperDat
Samburusunset
Dirty Martini

seems a little slim to me... there must be more out there... let me know!

ps - answers to questions:
- doors at the Plaza open at 7pm, cameras inside for the FP show are not good, unless you have a secret one on your cell phone
- Skytrain is part of the "Translink" transit system, go to their website for schedule updates (just google it, I don't have the address here)
- other bar/pub/club options are endless, Granville St. is like a Vegas strip of bars (there's something for everyone)
- I tried to make a reservation in the back room of Subeez but a film festival has it booked, probably better not to reserve anyway because as we all know plans can change...

Mercury, thanks for volunteering, btw -- what a great newish-poster you are!

We may have a small group on Saturday -- no knowing who might not show up til Sunday. So I posted in the Logistics thread to see if a Sunday meeting would also be helpful.

Thanks again!

ETA -- I somehow missed you earlier, Hannah -- sorry! I don't think I can manage a massive placard, but I could certainly manage a wallet-sized one.

I'm toying with the idea of showing up at the airport first thing in the morning since I doubt I'll be able to sleep much on Friday night and seeing if I can switch to an earlier flight. I don't know what the chances are since it'll be holiday weekend, but iI figure it's worth a shot.

MercuryRising, this sounds like a great plan...that place looks like a cool place to hangout...whatever works out best for time and specifics is aok with me...

All of y'all not able to be there: we'll definitely be thinking of you!! We should have something like the Guinness around-the-world toast that kicks off St. Patrick's Day...set a time in Vancouver on Sat. (Pacific Daylight Time, which is GMT minus 7) and all those able to toast at the same time, calculating when that would be in your time zone , raise your glass at the same time!

Conroy: It's a gamble, since you may be just stuck waiting at the airport until your booked flight, but I do have to say this,: on holiday-heavy-travel days the earlier flights are usually the best since there are no (or not as many) previous incoming flights that can be late or delayed...the later in the day the more incoming flights delayed with a domino effect and the more standby passengers who may have volunteered their spot on an earlier overbooked flight or those having missed connections due to delays trying to get on the later flights, etc....you know, it rolls downhill <grin>...I have had more luck in getting on an earlier flight than not (especially since people sometimes don't make their 6/7am flight, etc)...but I have, on occasion, had to just sit and wait for my booked flight while unable to get on an earlier one, as well...

My flight is out at 6am and its a 90 min drive from here to the airport...so hopefully I won't be one of those who miss the first flight out...heh...we'll probably leave at 2:30 just to be safe <grin> At least it's not the bus, which would have meant leaving on this Tuesday to arrive by Sat. morning, so I'm grateful for that <grin>
