I hear you HH and I hope you have a blast too.

You were so lucky to see them in the 1980's.

I appreciate the input howard. I don't tend to chime in on the negatives very often, but i do share in some of your observations!
Its maybe cos they were just SO special to me that i get so wound up about them now (possibly) being 'police lite'
Ahhh, you can never relive that first time, HH. Some of us indeed are Live Police Virgins. But as many may know, going back to an old flame can be pretty rocking. It won't be the same as it was; but experience can bring interesting new tricks to the table.

I appreciate what you say about blind fandom. In many places I agree with you in spirit but not in tone. If someone is invested in a band/person/whatever to the point that he/she'll be happy with anything, well, that's his/her prerogative. There are a great variety of people on-board: some dig SC because of his drumming; some because of his composition; some because of his wit; some simply because he's pretty. (Stewart, call me. ) Whether I tend toward those particular leanings or not, it doesn't change my opinions or affect my experience. To each his own and all.

The incendiary bring-it-on nature of the thread plus some snarky remarks from all sides combined to create a heated atmosphere -- which -- let's all be honest -- is exactly what incendiary and snarky remarks are designed to do. Folks will defend themselves, their "heroes," and themselves for having those heroes in the first place. It becomes easy to forget that we're here because SC is important to each of us for one reason or another; otherwise, (trolls aside) we wouldn't be here in the first place. Plus, we're all getting a but crazed with all this bloody waiting.

(But you did all give me a bit of content for a day on the Tour Countdown, so for that I thank you.)

As future performances go, Coco said it -- there are no guarantees, so buying tix involves a leap of faith. Like most I've got an emotional investment in the reunion: it's exciting and fun and brings back giddy memories. And I admit that if I think too hard about that, I realize that that's not just a little bit weird. But I wouldn't travel the country on giddiness alone. Since I am indeed a Live Police Virgin, I based my decision/leap of faith on The Police's oeuvre, on their record of high quality live performances, on their evident talents as musicians, and on their many years of experience, as well as on my decades-long desire to see Stewart in action.

Thus far, the only "evidence" ever provided for why The Police might not rock boils down to one thing: Sting. Yeah, I'll grant that Sting can be (forgive me, Stewart) a bit of an old lady at times. But he's also incredibly talented, and I personally don't see his "jazzy" side as being some kind of malevolent force. I can understand why some might; I just don't agree. I personally need something more compelling before I start to doubt the band's talents and track record.

Predictions of fabulousness or failure, then, boil down to a question of who will "win" in the struggle of band dynamic: will Sting's lite side take over? or will Andy and Stewart be able to kick the cobwebs out of Sting's ass? (Or is it even a valid debate?)

Call it a leap of faith, but (predictably) my money's on Stewart. If for no other reason than the practicality that the drummer determines tempo. All other reasoning aside, it's pretty hard to croon at 200 bpm. Until we have actual evidence, I'm with the glass-half-full camp on this one.

Nothing The Boys do will please everyone. But I hope as many of you kind folks have a great time as is humanly possible.

My expectations:
Yes it will be different, but it won't be crap.
(Jesus H! Shutting up now. Sorry.)
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

If my beloved band kick arse as they are more than capable of doing i hereby swear.......

I will gladly

Be the first on here saying I was wrong .....i am a faithless fool and should never have doubted them.

Will gladly eat shit (not literally, u understand).

Hope you will all mock my lack of faith till i squirm and beg for your combined mercy

Listen to Stings post police offerings

......hmmm well maybe the last one is going a bit far ....i retract it...haha.

Sting is indeed a very talented man....he is without doubt a great song writer.
....i was going to go on and slag him here for his many many crimes...but as a gesture of goodwill and peace to all on here i'll leave it for another time....there will no doubt be many opportunities.

he's a very talented man.

God bless the f***in lot of us

HH

Its true it wont be like it was but i cant stress just how into the band i was from the age of six (yes six) till i was twelve (when they 'went quiet')....thats essentially most of my meaningfull childhood and so has great importance for me.
I fear if they are shit it will cause me significant psychological problems which may require costly therapy for many years....ha ha ha.

Tee hee. I was 5-11, HH, so I'm right there with ya -- I have virtually no memory of a pre-Police world. (Psst . . . And as talented as he is, I don't listen to Sting's post-Police offerings either. Shhhhh.)

Keep the faith, man. Stewart bless the fucking lot of us.

ETA: How old were you when you saw them play, HH?

I understand your fears HH, but you know they always are awesome playing together.

For sure it will not be the same like in old days, since, life is always changing, but I feel in an inductive way, that changes in The Police, mean better music to the world. You'll see...

I've reserved comment because I straddle a fence here. On one side, I have the utmost faith that Stewart, Andy and Sting will give us their very best. I got that feeling when I sat watching them at the Grammy's, wearing the largest ear to ear grin, and threatening anyone who dared to get between me and the t.v. at that moment. When Stewart started drumming, it was as if time turned back, and decades were erased. Then the footage I've seen of the Whisky, once again the crazy grin returned, and Stewart seemed to work an impossible magic. (I swear I counted at least 2 pairs of arms from that man.) This tour is gonna rock so hard it's gonna hurt.

But then the wheels in my head started turning. I worry about the enormity of this tour. I know they will give us their best, but as the tour wears on, will they get tired? Are there residual issues from before that will come out after being around each other for that long?

I know that as far as Sting's influence, it'll be there, but maybe not as pronounced as some fear. Stewart and Andy are there to keep him in check. Maybe, because I like Sting as well, and I've seen him in concert a couple of times, I don't see him as being a "weak link". I liked Sting's concerts (except for what seemed like a 10 minute version of Roxanne *shudder*) and I can only see this tour as being amazing. (Now to clarify, I do not want to see what can be construed as a "Sting concert featuring the talents of Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers." ) I heard it commented (by some DJ or someone) that Paul McCartney and John Lennon balanced each other. That without John Lennon, Paul was too flowery. I see Stewart as being Sting's John Lennon.

And, that's my 2 cents worth.

lol DirtyMartini, "(...call me  )" You slay me with that.

I know they are wonderful playing together and for sure The Police will do awesome on World Tour.

My correspondant proove is that I love all Police music since 1980 until now, including Roxanne from grammys 2007 and also EveryoneStares derangements.

Since my virtuality I am enjoying all the ride, if you understand what I mean?

Police lite maybe will be cool to stay online!

Just hearing this song from utube:

Police 2007 - Can't Stand Losing You / Reggatta de Blanc

Underground sounds, cool, hippie, all the experience on three musicians that are really good playing together!
