Prediction: tour may backfire & turn out a big bore!!

I am a huge police / Copeland fan; bought 2 concert tickets (w/ hotel, gas - spending under $300 total).

Here's the point:

1. The Police will sell out almost everywhere b/c of 21 yrs of pent up demand.

2. If word gets out early in the tour Sting is turning it into a jazz show, or they sound lame; there could be backlash.

3. No new material came out of winter rehearsal sessions, showing maybe where the band is at attitudewise (we're just jamming, man).

4. Ringo Starr was quoted as saying the band sounded boring @ the Grammies.

5. Maybe I'm sounding like a jerk / party pooper, but this is just some gutt feeling I've had for a little while.

6. Sting just has not sounded / looked like he has been in the game since Brand New Day.

7. The tour has a slight stinch of greed.

I think they all 3 have enough. Sure, they like they money and I don't blame them. They risked a lot to become musicians, as you can tell from Andy's book. But now that I'm reading Ian Copeland's book and see that the was pretty close to Sting after The Police and so was Kim Turner, I think these guys realize that this the last chance to do this. Both Ian and Kim died recently, as you probably know, and Andy is 64 years old. I think they want to feel the fans' adoration and have fun. Maybe not all of the shows will be great but a lot depends on the audience. And yes, Sting's jazzy stilings can be cheesy but no one is perfect. I'm going to see them at the Vancouver Fan only show and then in Oakland and have spent quite a bit to see them, in addition to getting books and DVDs and CDs in the last few months. What can I say? I've loved them since I was 16 years old and now at 38, I finally get to see them. They're older but still look and sound good.

Roxanne at the Grammys was a mixed of new and old. I thought it was great.

Yes they are older and more mature, but their sound will never really change.

I only need to hear the first note on a radio and I know instantly it's a police song.

Don't worry, just enjoy the ride for this is once in a life time experience with my boys and I am going to enjoy every moment off it, and say to anyone who puts them down, get a life!!!

The guys are having a ball so we should do the same and my boys will never sound bad. And I am having a ball everyday, just by been here for I feel close to Stewart and I just love all you guys.

Methinks I just smelled some sour grapes from Ringo in that comment (and normally I like the guy, too...)

I've dropped a couple grand on tickets and travel expenses for this summer; I'm not worried and I plan to have a blast, and I know my guys won't let me down.

I've just spent the afternoon coming to grips with my budget...laff..if only I still drank heavily...but that would be xpensive <grin>

This is my 2c (recycled 2c that is, I have repeated it a few times)...the time to "evaluate" and "judge" is after they have actually been given a chance to produce something...whether it be a show, or whatever else may be in store...be disappointed if afterwards you find something disappointing, but being pre-disappointed is rather silly

I hate to disappoint you, but I know they will be great...they *always* have been when they're hearts were in it...hell, even when their hearts wer half in it they were brilliant...Stewart will not disappoint and that's a *promise*...he just can't f'in help it <grin>

PS: Never underestimate Stewart and Andy: big mistake...big mistake...huge <grin> Ya know, all we are saying is give The Police a chance <giggle>

Ok. First let me say...um...I think you'll find yourself mistaken.
So what if there's a jazzy twist to some of the stuff. It's not gonna be like The Vince Guaraldi Trio does "Every Little Thing..." Their probably gonna put some other kind of twist on other stuff. Just because Sting's had his tantric self in the limelight since they split doesn't mean Andy and Stewart threw their instruments in the closet. They've been developing their own sounds and I imagine those will emerge in the tunes as well! And they're going to rock their asses off! Stingo is not God of all things Police.

Stewart is not a shrinking violet. He didn't take Sting's shit 30 years ago. Do you think he's going take it now I think not. In most of the recent pictures he looks like he is absofuckinglutely thrilled to be doing this. It's kind of like when a little kid finds his favorite toy after he thinks it's was lost forever.

I think they would have about 50 riots on their hands if they tried to fuck with the fans devotion,not to mention hard-earned cash. Give them the benefit of the doubt.
I just scored a ticket to the opening show in Vancouver (my 3rd official show ) and I'm anxious as hell to hear what the boys have in store for us. I don't know why you're even going if you think they're going to suck. So, put my 2 cents with Gina's. And I DON'T CARE if you don't like it

If there are folks out there not wanting to see the band for fear that they won't live up to their expectations, you can send me your tickets. I personally hope to hear some arrangements of old faves that have been completely revamped. If I wanted to hear the same old thing I'd sit at home with my headphones on.

Do you know I'm not sure if I care if I turned up for one of the gigs and the band just stood on stage tinkering.....

It would be such a blast just to see them!!

I do worry that Stings voice wont hold up for all the gigs...
However he doesn't seem to try to hit all the high notes live which I think helps to keep his voice.

I'm just pleased that having missed them live the first time round (I was too young) I've got the chance now and I am grabbing it with both hands.

I too love the police/stewart since i was 6 years old but yes.....

The dreadfull cashing in is highly distastefull

I too am concerned about Stings influence and the potentially lame interpretations of songs.

Im not too worried about criticism from on here....its not exactly the most impartial of forums ..and thats fair enough.....it does always concern me a bit tho when people get so into a band or 'pop star' that the band could literally piss on them and they would view it as a refreshing and exciting summer rain shower....anyway if people wanna live in that dream world thats their biz.

I too have allowed myself the indulgence of buying tickets for a show.....im hoping it will be great...i suspect it will be ok and reasonable nostagia value.

Nevertheless i think the shadow of monetary greed has cast a long shadow
and for me has definatly tainted the reunion.

(couldnt care less what ringo says...best to make ones own judgement.....mind you Ringo knows a thing or two about being boring)


Anyway....I'll be more than happy if im totally wrong and they are the most exciting thing since i saw slipknot....my gut feeling is that i am right and we are in for Police-lite or 'The police play the music of the police in the style of sting playing the music of the police'

In case you were unaware this is a site for fans of Stewart Copeland (and his projects) and a fan is generally defined as "an enthusiastic devotee or follower." To say that everyone who posts or visits this site is impartial or would allow an artist they enjoy to "piss on them and they would view it as a refreshing and exciting summer rain shower" is at best ill-informed and at worst moronic. I imagine most, if not all, members of this site have been disappointed with some of Stewart's work (or Andy's or Sting's) - I know I have - but most find it completely pointless to log on to an appreciation site and say, "Hey! Such-and-such really sucked! So there!" Obviously, it's all subjective. My point is: get off your high horse, dude.

As for you and WG buying tickets to a show you don't think is going to be very good. Uh, okay. It's your money. I hope for your sakes you enjoy the shows.

And as for the whole "greed" issue...this has come up many times on other threads and I still don't get it. Why is this an issue? I'm fairly certain none of them need money. But more importantly so what if they do? Or so what if they don't and they still want more? I said it before and I'll say it again: it's their job. Their jobs just happen to much cooler and much more lucrative than yours or mine. If they can have a tour and charge $225 a ticket and $100 for a fan club membership then have at it. It's all supply and demand and there is clearly demand.

We won't know how the shows are until they start them. It won't be 1978, it won't be 1983 and it won't be solo Sting, Stew or Andy. I'm personally looking forward to a combination of all of the above.

Sometimes I wonder what it means to be a "fan". I will stand in front of that stage - hell yes I will make it in the second row at least - and I will simply wet my pants if the boy will enter the stage.
Stewart could play the Bongos, Andy could have a nurse feeling his pulse and Sting could sing all the names in the Tokyo phonebook while some arabian flute player is trying to safe world peace by performing "One world is enough ..." I couldn't care less - it is THE POLICE up there ...
The only thing that could ruin the show for me is if there were too many old farts (40+) around me going "Boy they sure changed I saw them in Hatfield '79 and they were so much more ... authentic ... " (that very moment they will use their cell phone and start the seat heater in ther 3er BMW)

I have the OPPOSITE opinion.

The video clips are ghost vocals for tracking, just for learning the parts. Sting isn't going to blow out his voice until show time.

I don't know what Grammy's you are talking about, I have it recorded and it looked and sounded fantastic to me.

I so tired of this "jazz" talk.
