Have you seen the film Brimstone & Treacle? This song comes from its soundtrack. Sting portrays a character in the film widely thought to be the devil, hence the title. Needless to say, he has very little good in mind for his "beloved"!

Sting says in the Bring on the Night liner notes this song was written when he was a schoolteacher about his first wife Frances. It was used in Brimstone & Treacle but really doesn't fit in the film, if you ask me. It's a pretty erotic love song. Sting's character Martin is a complete wack job! There's no love story in the movie. Martin has a thing for a girl, but, well, you have to see the movie if you haven't. It's something else. Not the best movie, but my favorite of Sting's. Good bum shot! Great soundtrack.

For those who haven't seen Brimstone & Treacle yet, you can find the DVD on amazon.com.
Here's the picture of the cover:

Well, for romantic song I mean a thing like Fields of Gold. IBFY is a hot, erotic song above all.... don't know how much romantic love entered in Sting-Frances relationship, but surely sex was good! (just check the song She's too good for me (TST): I am convinced it is a parody of their love story!)
it could also be that our different languages give to the word "romantic" a different meaning....

btw, if I recall well, Sting was a bit angry because of IBFY exclusion from a Police album (Ghost maybe?), so he decided to use it for B&T Soundtrack. The obsessive rythm is quite appropriate, but lyrics don't match at all with film plot. My fave Sting's movie, along with Stormy Monday.

I have a question for those who have seen the movie.
I have the album of "Brimstone & Treacle Soundtrack", and I've always been wondering why the Go-Go's " We Got the Beat " is in here.
It's totally different from others.....does it fit in the movie?

Not at all! I didn't even remember that thing! Simply the Go-Goes was supporting act for The Police, they were a Miles's discovery.... I can't see any other explanation than advertisement....

Yeah, they both had an IRS connection, that's probably the best explanation!

I'm sure that's the reason, and they also used it in the movied. Remember? Itt was playing on the radio when he was in the mother's room trying on her gloves or something like that. He was really good at being creepy in that movie.

As for IBFY, I have always loved that song. Also the chaos to the end as mentioned above. Great tune. :D

All I know is, if Hannah and I lived in the same town, there'd be trouble. As it is, we may be able to get up to a fair bit of it...what's 3000 km?

;)
