No new songs from the Police...

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 13 Apr 2007 21:49
but the fact of the matter is, The Police was Stewart's band from the beginning. He had the vision of what he wanted it to be. He was largely responsible for their sound.
Hell freezes over and W&S and I are in 100% agreement!!

That *would* happen on Friday the 13th...;)
My cousin gave to me my very first Police´s album, and I am still remembering when I saw the Outlando's cover for the very first time, I thought, Uhhhhhhh, I don´t like this punkie guy with very short hair (Stingo) I really hope he is not the drummer.
Georgygirl, do you remember what was written on the back cover? I think it was something like "All titles produced and ARRANGED by the Police". This says all for me. ;)

Philip, just to make it clear: your point of view is very interesting. It's just a discussion, "donc ne t'inquiète pas !" ;) By the way, I finally took my TPT.com subscription and got my tix to Barcelona!

Interesting. Going back to the original topic, the statement appears to have been made to discredit the New York Daily News story, which seemed ridiculous anyway.

"No new songs and no songs from Sting's solo albums will be included." According to the official line on this tour rumour.

Hmm... someone had better tell the guitarist in the band. Even today, for the members in the UK go to SKY channel 103 text page 825 or Channel 4 telextext page 345, there's yet another Andy interview who says:

"In the past the only way to keep going, partying and playing, was to take drugs. But I think it'll be much more like yoga and granola these days"

"But we'll still be giving it everything we've got. We're also looking forward to playing new stuff."

New stuff, eh? Oh, well the truth will out. I personally would be very surprised if new material doesn't surface at some point.

Agreed, Landlord.

I just get the strong feeling that the official denial on tpt.com was simply a preventive strike to avoid a media frenzy over something that may -- or may not -- end up panning out. Just like all the denials over there being any plans for a tour until the day of the official announcement. Andy may have let slip more than he should have, so it's time for damage control. :D

And there's precedence for being careful--look at how the Van Halen reunion tour fell apart, wasn't that because someone's girlfriend leaked to the press the news about the tour before it was supposed to be announced? Before everything was negotiated? The name of the game seems to be say nothing until the ink's all dry on the contracts.

We'll find out for sure, eventually!

"Let's not forget how vehement the denials of a reunion or tour of any kind were, just back in January"

Excellent points made there, sockii!

It's quite surreal that we are talking about this at all. The anticipation seems to be getting more intense as the tour gets nearer.

Agreed. [Although remember that the Van Halen sitch has had all kinds of problems from the beginning. So as long as Sting doesn't turn into David Lee Roth (gak!) and Andy doesn't go into rehab, I think we'll be okay.]

When The Boys want to tell us something, they'll say so. In the meantime, they need to gag Andy. Is anyone else just tickled pink at the fact that ANDY has turned out to be the motormouth in this situation?!?
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

It is shocking, to say the least. Readers of TPT will recall that Andy's site also broke the news about the Atlanta, Chicago and DC dates for next fall...

Or at least those dates were on his site for a while before they were taken down. The Chicago dates turned out to be correct, though.

Andy's site also listed a date on the 20th October at the O2 Arena in London, which hasn't been announced and would appear to be possibly the final date on the European tour if it's true.

Heh...whatever the case, I'm over the moon...But I have to wonder how it's got to be bloody maddening to be Andy-freaking-Summers and not be able to say x or y, LOL...or to have the 'official' word run contrary to a comment you let out...and furthermore to have so much pressure and implications possible from every word you utter...It makes me appreciate being nobody: I can say whatever and even be jackass all I please...now that's freedom <grin>

Hmm . . . perhaps "motormouth" should be replaced with "canary" . . .

Thing I learned today: keep an eye/ear on Andy.

He's like the Alan Greenspan of the Police world... only insofar as lately everyone's been hanging on his every word to see which way the wind blows...but I suspect we won't be hearing anything further from him <grimace>

...at least until THOSE FIRST CHORDS ON OPENING NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nicole my dear, you speak about equations. Perhaps you can understand this:
RESULT OF THE EQUATION:
100% POLICE = 65% Sting + 22.5% SC + 12.5% AS

That is just nuts. If you get married is it going to be
65% you, 20% your wife, and the remaining 15% gets
doled amongst the grammas and kids?

Oh yeah. Stewart says as much in interviews, I think...I'm sure it's tough to be *this* famous, because it's a "don't hate me because I'm beautiful" thing. There's probably a lot of real crap that goes along with it, but you're not allowed to whine about it to anybody. ;)
