I was thinking of going to Memphis to see the show and hopefully catch a band that mainly plays in Memphis that my cousin keeps saying I need to catch there sometime called th Dempseys http://www.thedempseys.net/index.htm . But it turns out they Dempseys are playing in Nashville that weekend!
Might be a little, er, dischordant for your tastes. But if you decide to go for it, the album "Fun House" is considered a modern classic by many.
Fun House is one of my alltime favorite records. I caught The Stooges at the end of '03 and they were unbelievable, the best show I've seen in years! They played most of Fun House, complete with the same horn player Steve Mackey who played on the record.

I'm supposed to see them in San Francisco on April 21st. This is quite the year for shows!

I'm hoping like hell they'll still feature Mike Watt on bass. I'd walk a long way to see that man play.

Con, you can still come!! There'll be some great local bands there for sure. Or you *could* come to Bonnaroo and see the mighty Dynamites...best funk band for miles. And I'm not just saying that cause my friend's their manager. ;)

We have reservations for this, but the prospects of actually going are looking a little bleak <cry>

I did, however, come across this posting of the contract/rider that Iggy and the Stooges have for this tour...and it's absolutely hysterical...its 18 pages long, so if you are just in for a quick skim, right around pg. 13 is where the security/catering/dressing room specifications begin...

I just now saw this response to my earlier reply. What days are you guys going to the Memphis gig? Maybe I could fly into Nashville and catch a ride with you guys. I haven't had a chance to noodle it through as I've spent the last several days talking to Ralph on the Big White Phone. I know airfare to Memphis from DC sucks and is more reasonable to Nashville.

Is The Police going to be there as well? Who are these people? I just have never heard of them. I'm just wondering if the Police will be playing there as well...

Have people really never heard of The Stooges? I'm a little shocked! But maybe I'm just being an old fart. Here is some info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stooges

Especially check out the Influences section at the bottom of the page.

I'm sure they're a good band. I was just wondering why this thread was not Police related... I was thinking maybe they were opening up for The Police or something. Thanks for the info, though.

Well, let's see, Buzz. If you'd been here for a while and gotten to know some people here before you started making assumptions, you might know that I posted this thread because I know a little bit about the tastes of some of the other frequent, longterm users. We do try to maintain a relatively high news to chat ratio around here, but nobody is going to be a fascist about any of it.

If you're trying to make a point about the dislike of some folks here for various threads at TPT, please note a few of us went out of our way in a recent thread here at SC.net to say it's just not our thing, but we can understand why other people like it. For my part, I don't hang out at TPT much because the threads move so quickly I simply can't keep up. It's certainly not that I maintain any active dislike for anyone there, particularly (except this one girl, KAMLTOE, who insulted my hairdo...;))

Conroy, I'll email you. Not sure what the plan is yet...

What is this fascination with the stooges. Funhouse is very good, especially la blues but the other albums aren't as good.

What is wrong with you people. We should be discussing iggy pop solo's career which is an infinitely more rewarding listen. We should be talking about one of the greatest albums ever made "the idiot". We should be talking about the great atmosphere on "lust for life"

Let's turn this thread around and talk about iggy pop solo.

sure, sure Hollo...Iggy's solo stuff is brill...but I think the point was that some people hadn't heard of Iggy & Stooges and so examples were given so as for people perhaps to recognize they indeed had heard of them since they are the ones who did the new album and are touring once again...there's Iggy and Stooges and Iggy solo...and they are different, even though I'm always transfixed by the wildman in the front no matter WHAT incarnation <grin>

I didn't even mention TPT. I'm sorry if I had never heard of The Stooges. I'd heard of Iggy Pop. Sorry to have asked a question.

Maybe not, but given your only other interaction here so far has been to jump up in defense of TPT and the vastness of the off-topic threads there, don't act like it's a surprise or offence that we might make an assumption about your reasons for jumping into this thread with some sort of "hmmm" response.

We ain't dumb. And look, we're not looking to act superior or anything either. We have our off topic threads too but as Dive mentions they come up from the many years that many of us have been here and know each other. It's always been the same at AUI and other Police-related communities that have been going for a long time.

This is not to come across as elitist - god knows I hate the "true fan" arguments and attitudes - but sometimes it's wise to spend a little time getting to know a forum, its members, and its general atmosphere before jumping in feet first. We've had lots of new members in the past few months we've been happy to welcome in as part of the family.

Hey Buzz, I just wrote you a few paragraphs in the other thread...seriously, I think no offense is really intended here. Who says we can't all belong to several sites? I'm pretty sure more than a few people here are both at TPT and SC.net (and Backstage and tookooltokalypso and stewartcopeland.co.uk and a million other sites)...

Nobody here thinks you're uncool or that everyone on TPT is a bunch of boners. That'd make us pretty big hypocrites, since a lot of us here are on TPT also, wouldn't it?

Chin up, friend. Welcome aboard, and feel free to chat here too. All is well. We're just a little smaller over here, and the threads don't move so fast, but the important thing is that we're all fans of the best artists in the world, right?

I will be seeing Iggy at Lolla in August. He's one of my favorites and I still think Raw Power is the perfect example of thee perfect album of all time.

It'll be good, but too bad The Weirdness is such a shoddy record.
