No new songs from the Police...

Postby PhilippeC on 12 Apr 2007 19:36

Yes, after all, we'll get the answer in only 47 days! Maybe sooner, if there's anything new!

I was quite surprised to read on the communiqué that "No new songs and no songs from Sting's solo albums will be included." Okay, the last mention was to counter the rumours (a possible Sting solo album rejected... ah! ah! who would be mad enough to refuse his work?!), but the fact that no new songs are planned to be played is quite different from what we've learnt from Andy. Time will tell! ;)

Well, I have to confess that I would like a new Police song, but I will not like a song from Sting's in a new Police's album if there will be another one.
In the rehearsal at the Whisky, Sting said that they will play songs they haven't played before...that could mean back catalog that they never have played live (DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS MAY INCLUDE?) or "new" material...at least this makes-clear anything they play will be "Police"...so maybe that will put a stop to the "Sting with the Police as special guests" cwap people keep worrying about...<grin>
I think one song they're going to do is "Rehumanize Yourself" since a site posted a photo of the Vancouver rehearsals (might've been The Police tour site itself) and somebody had the Message In A Box guitar transcriptions book opened to that song. Either Sting or Andy's music stand. Thought it was funny they needed that to relearn they're own songs, but whatever works...I'll have to try and find that photo.

Sorry, I know someone thinking the way I do shouldn’t write in such a forum, but please, please, let me say this :

… it ’s a shame if there is no new material !

Someone had to say it. In French we say something like “all this for only that ?”

I couldn't disagree more, Philip.
But I respect that that's how you feel.

And I love the pic in your avatar.

Heh, maybe since they are "older and wiser" as Stewart likes to say, maybe they've learned from the past patterns...

Stewart, in the 1984 DownBeat Interview, said the following:

SC: "As a matter of fact, there's a horrible truth I've come to realise, and it's quite frustrating to me, which is the last three albums - the last two anyway - we've gone into the studio after a time when I haven't been playing for six months. Playing on tour, I just get a lot better, so my playing on-stage is always a lot better than what is captured on record.

CD: So your best drumming is live?

SC: Yes...well, actually my best drumming is on my home demo tapes. Whenever I get home from touring and hit my studio that's where all the best drumming is."

Perhaps instead of the old pattern of going to the studio 'cold,' they'll see what happens and perhaps start thinking about new songs, etc...come what may...when they are 'hot' off the tour...they no longer have to do things the old way..actually there's nothing they have to do whatsoever, for that matter...its totally their game...tours are no longer promotions for record sales <grin>

But we have shows to think about first...wooooohooooohoooo! <grin>

And sorry aboutthe number 47 days I cited earlier <before second coffee>...actually its only 46!!!!! :o

I gotta admit I've been thinking seriously about Vancouver.

Let's not forget how vehement the denials of a reunion or tour of any kind were, just back in January.
(bows to sockii, who is wise)

(hollers herself hoarse)

(damn, I love that song...)

LOL I thought I was the only one checking airfares and tix prices re: Vancouver/28...I mean besides the tens of thousands who already have tix and reservations, LOL...just as a flight of fancy...to see them on their very first night...good lord...lemme tell you, temptation kinda understates it...even though we are talking about Regan-Era-Star-Wars-style deficit spending as it is <grin> I was never this bad before Christmas morning or anything like this as a kid...I've been saving up my little-girl-impatience for now!

Well, even if Andy said "I can't see why not" for a new album, I have some doubt on them going back to the studios to record new tracks after the tour... Can you imagine Sting OK for one more consecutive Police year? He will probably want to be free, once again. And a new album should mean a new tour. Can you imagine them releasing at least 10 new tracks and not playing them live? But I'm not sure the boys are ready for touring one more year. Maybe I'm wrong! ;)

Doesn't matter! We've been waiting for more than 23 years, so what's a day? Wait a minute.... you said 46 instead of 47 days? No, no, you're right, it does matter! ;)

If there new material to show at concerts, a new album release depends on audience response...
