If I thought we were gonna get nothing more than a lounge act, I sure as heck wouldn't have spent somewhere in excess of a grand on tickets (so far...and that's just for myself, not counting what I've bought for friends/family).

I almost answered "today" for the drop dead question concerning myself...I decided to veer from my usual classes at the school gym and went for something about which I should have known better...a 60 minute 'cardio-combo'...I wish someone would have tackled me to the ground to prevent me from that...so I'm happy that I emerged alive, without the need to be removed via stretcher [only one who wasn't 18-22 in there LOL]...so now I feel as if hit with an Avtomat-Kalashnikova-1947...looks like another night on the mbs <grin>

FFS is what you suspect...I have the mouth of a sailor but I at least try to temper it on public mb's with abbreviations <grin>

You know, I can't help but wonder if a lot of the speculation isn't coming from people that haven't actively followed the individual band members over the past few years and paid attention to the solo stuff. I mean, we all know anything from Stewart/Andy will be terrif (and I will cop to having really enjoyed the lute record). So we know any new material will be outtasite.

On the other hand, if I hadn't actively listened for years, I might not know what to expect.

Maybe those folks ought to go buy some Oysterhead records! And Andy's instructional DVD...then they should read "One Train Later"...

Have you heard Our Mayor?!? The man whose reaction to Zep's "Rock and Roll" on the Play It Again clip was "Fuck me"? In Copeland's honor, I say, Fuck that. Or, if you prefer, FT.

So far, I sort of understand people's fears -- I just don't share in them. I think the new ideas for "Roxanne" that we've seen were cool, and I think the performance of "Voices"/"World" and "CSLY" at the Whiskey were great. A bit loose certainly -- it's not like Andy has been listening to Police records for 20 years -- but evident of a rockin' good time to be had.

But even when I don't like Sting's musical ideas, I've never thought of him as the devil incarnate either. Besides, I have faith that Stewart will kick his ass.

Well I'm so excited that I've crossed over into some strange territory like a cross between the Police mania and cosplay...at this point I am sewing and designing/ironing-on unofficial fan clothing for myself...in between what is passing for, at least as far as my conscience is concerned, 'work' <grin>

In addition to that, I have been shopping for camping and summer travel provisions...making reservations, printing out driving routes...checking StubHub to see what really killer seats are up for sale for shows other than ones I have tix for in the hopes that closer to the date a. I'll find some $ on the ground and b. the prices drop into optimal range...whacking away at various and sundry Police tunes, trying to keep up with that tricky devil...checking overseas plane fares for Amsterdam...randomly checking hotwire fares for other US cities corresponding to tour dates....etc. etc.

I'll let the boys worry about the music, and being brilliant, and preparing for the tour...it's what they do best...I have all this to worry about!!! <grin>

I think it would all be fine if it were marketed as something along the lines of.

" Sting plays the music of the Police in the the style of Sting with special guests Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers"

I shudder to think....am just thinking about the long outro to regatta de blanc when it used to explode and fire off into space...astonishing stuff ....but wondering with concern about how a section like this will be interpreted now.

The evidence doesnt look good to me.

....and whats more seems to me that SC will be frustrated by the pedestrian nature of the interpretations.........obviously, i dont know what goes on it stewarts mind but.

Well, we have nothing to go on but the words of our fearless leader, here, who says this thing is going to rock. So I'll take him at his word.

Gina, I've got the front panel of the GiTM bag knit up quite nicely. It was kind of a beast at first, since I knit it in intarsia without traveling strands (which meant I had nine or ten separate balls of yarn going for the color blocks). I started to post piccies, but I think I'll wait till the whole thing's put together. I've been mulling over a sort of modified I-cord binding for the edges (sorry for all the technical knitting talk, but I figure we may have one or two other needle freaks on here who may want the info.)

I've got a nice linen stitch going for the bottom of the bag, as well (I'm knitting it in cotton, so it won't stretch all to hell when my car keys land in the bottom of it.) Darling hub suggested a nice motif for the back of the bag: the red, yellow & blue stripes. Brilliant.

Sounds fatastic, Dive...I follow you, but I mainly crochet and sew <grin> I can't wait to see the finished product...I don't know if it'll interfere with your design but perhaps lining the bag with a lightweight cotton or blend (in a color that blends with the background color) would help preserve the shape of the bag even with all yer on-the-go goodies in it

I really might line it. I'm making it with needles slightly larger than I might have, but I didn't want it to take 10 forevers, which it would have in a smaller gauge.

You know, I've really knit all my life, but I didn't start learning about shaping garments and such until just a couple of years ago. It's really not all that hard, once you get the hang of it...

I'm thinking about knitting a cable into the bag strap. But I want the whole thing to look slightly angular, so I may go with kind of a Celtic weave if I do anything other than basic knit/purl at all...
