is it me? - lots of negative vibes from fans - I'm HAPPY !

Postby sockii on 11 Apr 2007 12:11

I'm still perfectly fine with the $100 I spent on the fanclub. If nothing else, I got 4 great seats together for the Philly show for myself & friends, which I would not have been able to do otherwise without spending significantly more than a $25 per ticket premium (believe me, I checked during the regular Philly ticket sale.) Yes, we could keep arguing the inherent unfairness of the ticket situation all over the place right now, but since that systems not going to change anytime soon, I'll do what I have to, to make it work for me.

Plus, I still expect plenty of other opportunities to come up as fanclub exclusives...so far I've sat out of the contests on site because I'm waiting for my chance on (hopefully?) something even better than a signed book or dvd. I just don't care for the vibe on the messageboards, it's not a long-established community like we have here. It's just not the same.

I would have to agree. It appears to be sort of a free-for-all over there...a major aspect of it, IMO, is that there are no moderators of the sort we have here...folks who actually read the messages and participate in the conversation. Nobody steps in to offer guidelines or issue any community standards, so things were getting pretty ugly in a couple of the threads I wandered into.

And yep, I'll admit the various appreciation threads just aren't my speed. Nothing against the folks over there who enjoy them...to each her own, I suppose.

Sounds like alot of hysteria going on over there.

I've said it before & I'll say it again, the atmosphere at sc.net is awesome.

Everyone has their opinions but it never seems to get nasty, and there's a genuine appreciation for other viewpoints.

It doesn't seem like Gio has to moderate too much. (Unless it's in the background and we don't see it.)

I call it my home away from home/work

I am mostly happy for Stewart, because I noticed this sunshine in his eyes.

Well, Stewart's a pretty shiny guy, by all accounts. In addition to being waaaay growth.

You must understand onething for the new fans of The Police I can see why you are not botherd by the 100 dollar fee. But for people like myself who started listening to them in 79 and spent thousands upon thousands of dollars for their merchandise, it truly is a big slap in the face!!!!

I share Miss. Gradenko's feeling regarding this.
and if sometimes i can't seem to talk you know this blackborad lacks a piece of chalk

How are you defining "new"?

I've been a fan since around '85-'86, and I don't have a problem with it (save problems with the industry *in general* these days). I won't even begin to count the amount of money I've dropped on Police related merch long before this tour myself.

Let's not drag the True Fan debate or anything like it into this. Please.

$100 is a small price to pay considering how much enjoyment I've gotten from the Police and Stewart's projects over the years.

I guess I just don't get how it's a big deal, really. Nobody is forced to pay the 100 clams (there are free message boards on TPT.com that are a lot more active than the pay ones), the board at SC.net here is still free...you can buy concert tix all over Ebay and there are still even some on Ticketbastard...The minute a new film gets posted at TPT.com everyone here transcribes it...There's tons of links to interviews and video here...

I'm not big into the emoticons, but I think this particular issue warrants a whole slew of those question mark ones. :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Laff, u just stop that <grin>...rule one of geekdom is that you don't remind us of how geeky we all are...ya, ya, it speaks for itself (rather, more accurately, shouts)...and most of the time, for my own sanity, I try not to think about the fact that Stewart actually reads this board from time to time <grin>

I maintain a.) that Stewart knows a thing or two about geekdom himself, and b.) that he'd a lot rather log on and see us all excited about his various doings than stop by here and find naught but the sound of crickets chirping.

(He does encourage us a bit, you gotta admit. ;))
