'Inside out' party with Stewart in Tokyo

'Inside out' party with Stewart in Tokyo

Postby Midori on 29 Mar 2007 13:53

Hi there,
I won an invitation luckily to a party in Tokyo (as a MTV JAPAN prize) for 'Inside out'
on screen in Japan and went see him today, Mar.29th.

The party started from 18:00PM (JAPAN STANDARD TIME), after press
conference at the same place. About 10 minutes past,
here comes - REAL STEWART!! I cannot believe in my eyes!!
A chosen fan gave a bouquet and he sighed her Klark Kent album.
He made a short speech and when he got off a small stage
(The party was held in a small lounge includes a stage and
a bar counter) , fans (about 10 or so. After the party, I talked with a
receptionist-she said that most of the attendance are journalists, record company men,
VJ etc) were running after Stewart, asking for his autograph.
I also came close to him, very nervously.
In fact, I could not sleep the night before, because of 'Voices inside my head' whispering like - 'The Police reunion wins huge popularity!! Tons of tickets have been sold out in one hour!!'
Stewart is the first- class drummer and big star!! '
But, when I stood in front of him, my tension was relieved- it was a kind of magic.
His tenderness came from the inside of him. I mentioned him that I' m a part of this site and He listened to my poor English eagerly, bending forward. (I'm only 5" 1'…need more height!)

Stewart stayed most of the party hour (18:00-20:00) in the VIP room with his daughter. Before the party ends, he said to us goodbye because he was tired by jet lag. At that time, a staff asked for him to play drum. At first Stew just made a noise but finally sat up the drum set! What an awesome experience seeing his drum play within 1 meter!! I don’t know how to describe this in words.

This is how the party goes. I'm so sorry for saying that photos are prohibited today.

Outstanding!! It really is almost surreal to meet Stewart face to face, isn't it?

Just a reminder to post a copy of the set list from PUNKSPRING if you find it anywhere in the press...or if you get to go!!

Sounds incredible, Midori! Thanks for the link and for sharing the experience. Being that close to The Man in action at the drumset must have been amazing.

And thanks to tonydrums for the link as well!

(A quick aside about the pictures of the event: How many black-and-grey striped shirts does SC have? That's the second or third different black-and-grey striped shirt that I've seen. Don't get complacent, Stewart -- break out the polka dots once in a while!]
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Such a great journey travelling with The Police! Just one thing you'd
better know ...February could be coldest here in Tokyo, so bring your
all sweaters, leather jackets as much as you can.

I almost felt faint... since my legendary hero suddenly showed up
as a 'real person'.

PUNKSPRING! yes , I finally got ticket by Yahoo auctions. Look at the
timetable....(green stage)
http://www.punkspring.com/07/timetable.html

Stewarts' time is only thirty minutes. (16:00-16:30 JST) I'm looking
forward to listen what he choose. But I know only a few tunes so-called
'punk rock'. Back in 70'S, 'Anarchy in the UK' 'God save the Queen'
'London calling' In 00'S, Green Day 'American idiot' 'Blvd of broken
dreams'....
So I have no confidence in recognizing Stew's set lists. Maybe I search for
it on the internet.

stewart will probably play something by The Damned (who released the first UK punk album)..... as he played hi-hat on a single which Brian James (lead singer of The Damned) released at some point in the 80's... i cant remember what it was called but its somewhere in my records.........) and hopefully he will only play 'proper' punk not green day or any of the mega compressed new US bands who are so far way from being authentically 'punk')...

but i'm sure everyone will have a fantastic time; it is wierd meeting stew in person; i met him in october at the 'everyone stares' premier and Q&A in london; signed my 'Dont Care' seven inch; he started to sign his name but i asked him to sign klark kent; which he did.....) :D

I'll tell you. The reason I'm so rabidly curious is the DJ set Stew played for KCRW back in 1996. Just about everything he played was something I already had (and loved) or something I wanted to check out.

I hope he *does* play new stuff, as well as old...and you certainly won't hear me complaining about any Damned in the setlist. ;)

(Would I love to get my hands on a bootleg of his DJ set. Just to hear the patter alone...)
