Stewart said today "both of my buddies are blazing like never before. This tour is going to be amazing!"...I think we can trust his judgment <grin>
They could encompass their career in one song - backwards. Start like Wrapped Around Your Finger and end like Next To You.
Ha!

Something tells me that Stewart will be hard-pressed not to scream and cheer and hoot even if he, Andy, and Sting get up there and play "Hit Me Baby One More Time."

Well, Stewart does have a slight tendency towards hyperbole...and he's said he's the biggest Police fan of us all...so here's hoping he's not in the "just plain giddy no matter what" camp. ;)

I don't know why I'm worrying about it, though...they were phenomenal at the Whisky. I figure there's pretty much no way either this tour or any new material is going to be less than awe-inspiring.

My vote? No Sting solo songs on tour (and he's already said there won't be). I don't like him saying "I'VE written these two songs," as though there's no input from the other two. But then, his taking credit for 100% of the band's work has been chafing my hide for 20+ years, so I dunno why I'd expect things to change now.

I'm reserving my judgment for the most part (mainly about the Sting *singly* wrote part...espcially since it could reflect more of how that was reported/perceived/written than perhaps how they are actually working with one another)...think I'd enjoy things best that way...but I do have to say *our* Dear Leader, for anything I can remember, has never promised anything to be good that wasn't delivered ten-fold :)

Any news for what he's gonna play at the Japanese DJ set? I gotta say. I'm (still) really dying to know what he's listening to these days.

I wonder if it'll be all retro stuff or if he's going to sneak in some contemporary artists. Maybe one of our Eastern friends will manage to copy down a setlist or find one in the Japan press.
Great news to hear that some new songs maybe in the offing.

A few of Sting songs that I would love to hear get the Police treatment would be Fortress Around Your Heart, Why Should I Cry For You and Soul Cages.

Let the flaming begin.
I HATE "Why Should I Cry For You". I'm really happy with Sting's statement that they won't be playing any of his solo material - and I hope that sticks!

A source would certainly be nice.

As would a drum solo.

Since Gio started this thread, I assumed at least the content of the info (new songs) to be valid, being as careful as he is about rumors/information...so if Gio confirms that the news is out, 'nuff said, at least for me <grin> I was just reserving judgment about the perceived relations between members, and keeping open about how the new songs take shape...

Oh yeah...I think there are definitely new songs. Can't wait. Can't! Wait!!!

Will we all just die if they start debuting new material at the concerts?! Oh man. I better bring some smelling salts. ;)

The reason why I question the quote is that it sounded sort of overly negative compared to what we've seen from Sting, and it was posted without any source except "an Italian newspaper". Considering that some people here apparently think Stewart and/or Sting are talking to them in a chat room, I don't know if I'm prepared to take it at face value. Even if it's accurate, the European press takes a tabloid approach to a lot of stuff, so it may not be exactly what he said.

""We're concentrating on the tour, it'll be fun and it'll be a big success as gigs sold out in less than 2 hours. But one thing you can be sure of: it won't last for more than one year, and after that i'll escape again! I've written 2 new tracks and we're working on them right now. The idea of a live album out of the tour is quite good, but only if the gigs turn out great. I'm not denying that getting back together was somehow weird at first, but there's no sign of bad blood among us."

Personally, I don't see why Sting would need to foreclose anything in the future. If it's going well, why limit your options? In any case, I don't think he would phrase it the way it's put in that quote. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm still hoping for a new album. If Sting has two songs, and Andy and Stewart can come up with one apiece, throw in a couple of instrumentals and you're almost there. :)

On a side note, Stewart jokingly calling Sting "Dear Leader" was a reference to Kim Jong Il. I wonder if I'm the only one who got the joke...

Laff, no, people got Stewart's joke...his humor is why many of us are here <grin>....and we were all laughing here after the rehearsal <chuckle>....& I can make fun of myself for being mildly sycophantic with his own joke

and yes when info 'gets out' it may be put in sensationalist terms, but the new music aspect seems validated, at least as far as I would assume from this thread :)
