The Beasties???????

Aw hell. I may be in for this one too. I saw the Tibet show at Randalls Island back in 96 or so and it was just unbelievable.
I saw them at the Tibetan Freedom Concert at RFK in 98. That was the year that the girl got struck by lightning. I actually only got tickets for the second day which worked out good, because all the bands who didn't play the first day because of the lightning strike wound up playing the next day. I got to see the Beasties, Sonic Youth, Sean Lennon, REM (with Michael Stipe wearing a long skirt), and other acts I'm forgetting.

Anyway, WHFS became El Zol, a Spanish format, a few years ago. They made a WHFS internet station, but i don't know if that's still up, and they continued the HFSestival, but i heard they were trainwrecks.

I was so excited to see this news, but then I looked at the pictures of last year's event and got bummed out. It's at the beginning of August? in the hot sweaty summer? With thousands of hot sweaty stinky people? At least at HFStival you can go sit in the stands under cover from the sun. Is there anything like that here?

Yeah, that's my main concern, too, bella. And the fear that they'll charge through the nose for bottled water. And I would only endure the apalling stinky smells for one band in the world.

It's amazing what they've brought us to, isn't it? I'm still pretty allergic to corporate music purveyors like Clear Channel, but I'm willing to make one exception. ;)

I heard HFS came back on the air briefly, on another frequency. Actually, for years it was the station I loved to hate....they would pick one song and play it over and over till your ears bled, then they'd switch to another one.

I still shudder when I hear the Breeders' "Cannonball" or "Feed the Tree" by Belly. BWHRbhrbhrb.

The thing with Virgin Fest is that they wait to pounce on what every other festival has to offer. But it becomes a juggernaut of awesomeness. Still lacks the real originality and feel of a music festival.

Unfortunately it's on the same weekend as Lollapalooza and there's noooo way I am missing that.

And in Baltimore? Hmm.

The Police here would be better than Bonnaroo, as far as money and being comfortable, but for a lifetime experience? Bonnaroo is more down to earth.

Sheeeez! Look at the awesomeness that was Lolla last year. Wow! I may go to this myself...decisions decisions...

I went in 94, 95, three or four years somewhere in there. Honestly, a lot of it is sort of...hazy...;)

Whichever year's Lolla with Pearl Jam, Ministry, RHCP, J&MC, etc. was unbelievable. RHCP couldn't carry a tune to save their life that night, but Flea was beautiful. And Ministry absolutely stole the show. To this day I can't hear "Stigmata" without seeing flashing lights.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Sonic Youth was good, but I've seen 'em a bunch of times in smaller clubs so it was strange to see them play a huge venue.

Beasties rocked the hizzouse in probably '94. I seem to remember Green Day was that year, also.

That's kinda crazy they booked the festival the same weekend as Lolla...wow...I'm praying hard for the Pixies still...do you think its possible for artists to do both (diff nights) or are they truly mutually exclusive?
