Police New songs expectatives

Police New songs expectatives

Now that the word is out due to Sting revelation...what do you expect from the new recordings?
I mean, would you like to listen to melody-driven stuff such as 'Every Breath You Take?, or fast-energic as 'Synchronicity?, or maybe the essence of 'So Lonely'?

I personally would love something that got the energy and the fastness of a track like 'Synchronicity', of course mixed with fresh vibes and touches coming from the three own separate careers.

Everything will be welcomed anyway as I'm sure they will find a way to record something interesting for most of us!

Bonjour Gio!

I'm with you: synchronicityesque songs would be fantastic! All I hope is we won't get anything like "fields of gold" or "let your soul be you pilot".

I was just wondering: Sting wrote 2 songs... But what about Stewart and Andy? Didn't they find time to write some songs too? Instead of 2 new songs, we could have at least 4 new songs!

Okay, I won't complain, I'm so glad there will finally be something really really new!!! :D

Gio, Well this is a good question. I believe that what ever the songs will be, they'll be stripped down to the minimum.

The reunion is all about simplicity, so I believe the songs will reflect that.

Are you sure Sting said this ?

I'd like a link to the interview, because the quote someone posted here sounded kind of weird. Maybe it was the translation.

"Fields of Gold" is a gorgeous song. But it's not The Police. And it's certainly not stadium material.

If I were to have a vote, I would want something high energy, bassy, with a driving beat -- the kind of pounding rhythm that you feel inside your chest.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Or, given where they are at now...the new songs could be completely different from anything they've done...I could not be more excited and I will just stay open to whatever the new material is, without expectations/comparisons...this really makes me excited, thanks for mentioning it, we've all been wondering!

Oh I dunno. When I saw String on his Broken Music tour, he played a college town (Eugene, OR) and "Fields Of Gold" got, by far, the biggest response. I was very surprised as I would have thought that most of the older fans there would have had a far greater connection to the Police material. The college kids would (for the most part) have been pre-teens at the time TEN SUMMONERS TALES was released, so I would not have guessed that they'd have much of a connection to it - or any of Sting's work actually.

"Every Breath You Take" was the second favorite that night. To my knowlege, both have been performed in stadiums during Sting's career.

You're totally right, aceface. I should have been more specific.

I didn't mean that "Fields" doesn't ever get played in stadiums (such as during Sting's solo concerts); I meant that "Fields" (or the equivalent) would be a less apt choice for the Police Summer Stadium Blockbuster Extravaganza thing (with all the raping and pillaging and burning down of towns and eating of children). I mean, one of these things is not like the other:

* "RRRRROOOXAAAANNNNNE!"
* "a YEAR has PASSED since I WROTE my NOTE"
* "Can't Stand LOsing YouUUUUuuuu"
* " . . . among the fields of barley . . . "
* "SO LONE-LAY! SO LONE-LAY! SO LONE-LAY!"

"King of Pain," "Tea in the Sahara," etc. are all more mellow, of course, but they share the Police sound (even "EBYT," which deserves its own hybrid anomaly category). "Fields" just has a different feel and tone. Plus, it doesn't really have much room in it for Andy or Stewart.

If they could fit a drum solo into "Fields" somewhere, then I think they'd be onto something.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Great news to hear that some new songs maybe in the offing.

A few of Sting songs that I would love to hear get the Police treatment would be Fortress Around Your Heart, Why Should I Cry For You and Soul Cages.

Let the flaming begin. :twisted:

How about the best of both worlds: they take a shot at a 'slow burner' ala Live's Lightning Crashes, Candlebox's Far Behind or the ultimate slow burner Stairway to Heaven.

Hmmm . . . interesting choice. Now I'm curious to see how Sting's voice would mesh with it. But no "StH" please. I had to burn a modified version of Led Zep IV just so that I could listen to the album again. It's up there with "Dream On" on my List of Incredible Songs That I Can Live Without Ever Hearing Ever Again Ever.

Although, ucla, I actually thought the opposite -- that it will be hard TO disappoint. I think I'll be hard-pressed not to scream and cheer and hoot even if Stewart, Andy, and Sting get up there and play "Hit Me Baby One More Time."

True, I guess there are two types of fans typically - the ones who have such high expectations they will never be satisfied, and the others who are just plain giddy no matter what they do

I would think they would put something down along the lines of the new vesion of Roxanne they did at the Grammys. Something slightly jazzy but with a Police feel to it. I think there's potential for some really excellent material.
Thanks Stewart!

I hear you on the Stairway thing. I just mean a song in that mode. They could encompass their career in one song - backwards. Start like Wrapped Around Your Finger and end like Next To You.
