Ouch! Can't remember exactly... It was a long time ago, I think in 1988 or 1989 and I have no idea in which magazine it was (I probably still have it, somewhere in the garage!). I don't think it was "Best" or "Rock N'Folk". At that time, there was another magazine which unfortunately didn't last long. But I forgot the name and I'm not sure it was this one.
What I clearly remember is that there was a part in the interview about his role as the new Sting's drummer. That Sting told Manu: "I'm gonna steal you to Peter [Gabriel]". Manu was telling the interviewer even if he liked the job he did with him, he prefered touring with Peter Gabriel and refused to tour with Sting.
He was questionned about The Police. He said he saw them several times, riding his "mobylette" ("moped" in english I believe?) to attend the concerts in Paris. He also added that he prefers what Sting was doing at that time, that it was superior.
Questionned about the fact Andy Summers was playing on the new Sting album (Nothing Like the Sund) he replied something like : "In The Police, and in many other rock bands, all the job was done by the bassist and the drummer". He wasn't impressed at all by Summers and had no consideration for him, that he could have been replaced by any other guitarist in The Police.
It was quite strange because it seemed he really had no respect for him... I remember questionning myself at that time, if he had any argument with summers to speak like that. But I'm not even sure they met in the studio!
This said, it is possible the journalist "arranged" the text and made Manu saying something he never did. Who knows! But I think it was in a serious magazine, so...
A plus !
