Stewart Copeland's Police Diaries

Demos and audio snippets will be sent out to those that pre-order the book according to a quote from Stewart in a Rolling Stone article.

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/musi ... 234658430/

Do you know where you were on September 25, 1976? Maybe not, but I do.

I was a long-haired alien drummer touring the UK in a prog-rock band called Curved Air, and that night we were in Newcastle where I saw a local band called Last Exit.

I know that because I was taking notes every day in my now slightly dog-eared, pocket diaries. I noted that they were ‘great’ and that we had a party. In a later diary entry, after realizing that punk was the future, I remark on the day that I persuaded their bassist to move to London and join me in my own punk band.

All this, along with explanations of what the cryptic original notes mean, makes this book the truest account of The Police’s beginning and early days.

It’s full of my original diary pages, hand-made poster designs, ragged accounts, callow observations and other scribblings of a proto-rock star, illuminated by hitherto unseen vintage photos from the deepest vaults.

It’s a big, noisy book about one heckuva ride.

I have not signed in for along time. I was locked out.

I tried again because I received Stewart Copeland's Police Diaries book. It's great. It exceeded my high expectations. I have read about a third of the book. It's a page turner, and can also be enjoyed in random sections.

The book is packed with interesting and detailed information about the years just before the trio got together and the early years of the police. Stewart's diary entries are supplemented by his insights and commentary.

There are also many photos. I always knew Sonja Kristina was a good looking woman. I didn't realize she was a babe-and-a-half, if I dare write that on Stewart's site. Don't hate me, SC.

Unfortunately, I did not pre-order the book. When I tried to order, the more expensive versions that are signed and include the music were not available. That was disappointing but the book itself is worth the price.

Stewart and his collaborators obviously put a lot work into the visually enhanced diary.

Stewart also somewhat clarifies and sometimes amends prior information written about the Police story.

As I have mentioned before, I have read all the books written by Sting, Stewart, Andy, Ian, Miles and a couple of independent books. The improbable story of the Police rise to mega-success needs to become a movie or mini-series. There are so many twist and turns, so many stars that aligned, so many characters (central characters and interesting people who come and go), so much drama, lot's of love stories, break-ups, etc. We even have CIA spy tales and Ian's harrowing story of combat in Vietnam.

It's all there for a great screenplay.

ADDENDUM: I also read Henry Padovani’s book, which is also very entertaining.
