Stewart Copeland (@copelandmusic) is a Grammy Award-winning musician, considered by Rolling Stone Magazine to be one of the top ten drummers of all time. He’s a founding member of The Police, and an inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

In this conversation, we delve into lessons for surviving the music industry, why entrepreneurs (and self-directed artists) never get a day off, how The Police developed their unique sound, the decision that changed everything, and much more.

This episode comes from my new television show Fear(less), where I interview world-class performers about how they’ve overcome doubt, conquered fear, and made their toughest decisions. You can watch the entire first episode with illusionist David Blaine for free at att.net/fearless. (To watch all episodes, please visit DIRECTV NOW).

We recorded three hours of material and only one hour was used for the TV show. This podcast episode is almost entirely new content that didn’t appear on TV.

Enjoy!

With all the insanity in today's current events, this is exactly what I needed to hear to make sense of it all.

Thanks, Rob!

Yes. That was an excellent interview and a good alternative to the other things happening.
SC-There are a few crazy people on this planet. Sure sign of that is that they kinda like my music

The best interview I've heard in a long time. I wish there was video.

I had read it before, but it's the first time I've heard Stewart mention the fact that his mother was also a spy.

And it's the first time I've heard that Ian Copeland died from the effects of Agent Orange. So sad.

If you haven't read Ian's book, "Wild Thing," find it and read it. It's very entertaining and informative. Lot's of detail about the music business, the Police and life in the Middle East and the U.K. He writes about his relationship with Courtney Cox. He also goes into detail about his experience in Vietnam. Very scary.

The story of the Police and the cast of characters that surrounded them can easily become a movie.

There's also a good story about booking the Police for US Festival.
