Stewart and Miles

Stewart and Miles

I read years ago that Stewart and Miles had a disagreement over the Police reunion because Miles was excluded.

They had a bunch of lawyers who said, "Let's keep Miles out, you're going to save money." I still get my royalties and it's going to help me too, but I thought it was undermining the essence of what the Police was.'

Naturally, it had to hurt Miles. Who can blame him? He was synonymous with the band and a played a significant part in the group's success.

Sting's manager during the reunion tour used to do publicity for Sting. Now she's helping to cut out Miles.

As we know, Miles was Sting's manager up until about 1999.

In this video you can hear the potential creative/business differences that led to the breakup of a very successful relationship between artist (Sting) and manager (Miles).

It's funny because Sting eventually did exactly what Miles was saying in the video and it produced 57th & 9th, his first studio CD of original songs since he broke up with Miles.

I know Miles said he still made money from from the Police reunion tour, but could have made more if he was directly part of the tour. Miles was not happy.

Who can blame Stewart for going ahead with the tour. He started the band. Stewart met Sting in Newcastle, gave Sting his phone number and when Sting ventured to London he had one phone number- Stewart's.

Stewart probably earned at least $35 million from that tour (from all sources of revenue). Brother or no brother you're not going to turn down that payday.

It was sad to now hear Stewart say he and Miles are still not talking to each other, a full decade after the end of the tour.

I hope they eventually patch it up. It's very sad for this to happen because of money. Miles has to recognize that it would have been royally stupid for Stewart to deny his family the financial security. Stewart has seven children (that we know of) ...Ha Ha, Mr. Copeland.

Miles and/or Stewart, if you're reading this please call your bro immediately.

Stewart, you have to pick up the check because you made killing with the tour. Seriously. You pay.

You can listen to Stewart talking about Miles starting at 12:45 in this video.

BTW, Sting wrote in detail in his book about the first meeting with Stewart and the phone call he made to Stewart when he got to London.

If you haven't read Sting's description of their first jam session you must get the book.

I had forgotten that during the 57th and 9th tour, Sting frequently mentions having Stewart's phone number as he introduces the song, Heading South on the Great North Road.

Here's one example:

Wow. I had no idea they haven't talked in ten years. But I've know family relationships that have strained over far less (sometimes essentially nothing at all)
There is no bigger gong.

For what I understood talking to some 'insiders', there should be something more than that but it seems like none of the people who know the real truth wanna talk about it.

I don't know how to feel about this............ IRS did drop Wall of Voodoo and Deborah Holland, so I am a bit pissed.
