Death of David Bowie

I just heard the news on the radio. I can't believe it !
He died of a cancer after 18 months of battle.

Apparently, Bowie knew he was dying as he made his final album (just released on January 8, two days before his death) and intended it to be a goodbye. Not sure how many musical artists had a chance to do this and/or actually did it. Only George Harrison's Brainwashed comes to mind.

I would highly recommended Blackstar to anyone who appreciates good music. Just hours before learning of his death, I was on the phone with friends imploring them to buy this album, which I think is really great. So Bowie in that it is so different and unusual. As an old advertising campaign said, "There's New Wave. There's Old Wave. And there's David Bowie." Or something like that.

You could perhaps add Queen's Innuendo and Made in Heaven, but the latter's post-humous production does give it an odd twist. I always think of/feel Innuendo as the swan song.

ETA: I should add, though ^those are nowhere near as orchestrated as Blackstar. But this is Bowie we're talking about. We could expect no less.

That's what I think too It's good that his final weeks and days were private.

One of the best concerts I ever went to was David Bowie at the Milton Keynes bowl in 1990. I remember it because it was the first time I'd gone to see a band after my daughter was born. My Mum came and babysat for me and we were both really nervous but it was a brilliant concert.

It's odd because although every one dies at some point, somehow there are people who you expect to live forever and David Bowie was one of those people.
