Bela Bartok (is amazing)

I am bringing up this legendary hungarian composer on a Stewart Copeland forum for one important reason.

His music is the first that directly reminded me of Stewart's.

As someone who has learned, played and enjoyed pieces from Mikrokosmos, I must say I disagree with you. The works are great for teaching piano.

I am saying I really dislike Bartok compositions/music/etc. That's my opinion and am sticking with it,
Y'all gotta get a sense of humour & spirit of libertarianism on these posts folks. Just take a look thru some of the old ones, back during tour etc, lots of disagreement-except about Stewart. Now that's what we all can support/get behind !

There's no anger or whatever you are implying on my side. We do have something in common. We both practiced Bartok, and despite what you said, "I think only someone who never had to practice those d*** "Mikrokosmos" over & over & over again on the piano could say that, " I am a fan. That's my opinion and I am sticking to it. I think everyone on this site knows about musician enthusiasm and appreciation.

It's quite obvious you don't like "counterpoint." Other people do. Peace out.

Hello moonstone (seems that folks are more serious on here these days ). Hope you are well, down on that 'south coast' these days.

Its interesting you should mention this because in my post-Copeland-obsessed years I started really familiarizing myself with classical music and it was hard not to notice when a piece would sound, err... copelandesque. Bela Bartok came up at least a few times and in particular this very simple piano piece caught my attention.

But I would say on the whole, much of John Adam's (and to a lesser extent Terry Reilly's) stuff is what has been most redolent of Copeland for me. But that tonal signature has cropped up in many pieces. You'll hear it at least a couple times in Music of the Spheres by Rued Langaard. Part of Debussy's Le Martyre De St. Sebastian reminded me of Holy Blood. Hell, even Alban Berg's Wozzek had a single chord in it that couldn't help remind me of Copeland. Unfortunately the piece that most reminded me of Copeland I was not able to find again but I believe the composer was Martinu.

I will say though I have been much in want to hear the latest orchestral works of the classical composer who sounds most like the maestro
