Sting: What's Wrong With The Guy?

Sting: What's Wrong With The Guy?

Postby jerseyfan on 01 Aug 2015 19:19

I have been closely following Sting's entire solo career.

When he's on tour, he plays the same songs in the same order every night of the tour. He pulled the same ridiculous thing on the Police reunion tour. Stewart and Andy, the only two people capable of challenging the practice and getting it changed, did nothing.

Yes, I know there were some minor set-list changes throughout the Police tour.

I've read some BS about the lights being coordinated with the songs. Who gives a flying F about the lights? Not one fan goes to see Sting/the Police for the lights. The Police could be playing with reading lamps and the gig would still be sold out.

Playing the same songs has to drive the musicians crazy, especially with Sting's enormous catalog. These are some heavyweights on stage with Sting- either solo or as the Police. They can certainly handle set-list changes. Bruce Springsteen and U2 play songs at the request of the audience. They change their set-lists all the time.

And Sting has been wearing the same pants and t-shirt for about eight years. I hope he washes them at least once a week. PU

I completely agree with you Jerseyfan! I've always been bored with the lack of variety in Stinghoffers live work.

It's easier for everyone to play the same songs, in the same order. Not as fun for us, but I'm sure that's the answer.

I don't have much options of going to concerts in another countries or states... yet. I almost never go to concerts.

And besides, I only became a fan of Stewart's material after the band's reunion, and did not know much of what was going on in the world (grew up without Internet, believe it or not).

Ironically being born in the days of the internet, allowed me to discover The Police even though they broke up before I was around. Well you discovered them, what time does not really matter. And at least you have the concert DVD's you can watch.

Seeing Sting live? Meh, I quit going. He's gotten too new age for my taste.

I think "New Age" is such a meaningless term.

It's generic, lots of terms are generic. It's just my way of saying his music isn't rock anymore, I'm not sure what category to place it in. I didn't use to mind, but lost interest.
