Is Circa Zero dead?

Postby Howstupidmrbates on 24 Nov 2014 01:03

There is a communication blackout from Andy, Rob and Circa Zero happening lately. I'm thinking this can't be good news. Rob posted a few months ago about "this band has had a string of bad luck with drummers and management" or something to that degree. I don't recall the exact wording because the post was deleted the very next day and since then....nothing.

I hope they can pull it together. They were promising.

I had been wondering the same thing for quite some time. Missed the post from Rob whenever/wherever that came up. Kept hoping there'd be some news about any show dates but...yeah.

To be honest I "liked" the album but didn't love it, mostly because I wasn't totally into Rob's vocals. They really needed a good drummer to tie it together and I just know when I saw them on one of the late night tv shows, with the drummer that replaced Emmanuelle, I was NOT at all impressed. He seemed way too heavy handed and lacking in the finesse they needed. But it could have come together into something, for sure. :(

I had read the same quote on the Circa Zero Facebook page and the post has been deleted because i couldn't find it anywhere. I know for sure that all the posts are from Rob.

When i write something to the FB Circa Zero page i usually get a response and this is one i had asked in a private message.

Me: "So whats going on with the band? You guys have pretty quiet and The Rescues are back together."

Circa Zero: "Hey. The Rescues never broke up. We are both doing so many things all the time. more news someday!"

Me: "I apologize, did not know for sure what was going on. Can't wait to hear more news"

It would be wonderful if they got Stewart to sit behind the kit. :)

Andy is currently in Brazil playing Police songs with Rodrigo Santos e os Lenhadores.

He basically is spending more time in Brazil than anywhere else.

Nah. Stewart definitely has way better things to do with his time and energy!

I dunno. Didn't stewart say that if he gives someone a day in the studio that he gets them over to the grove for a day in return...
Spend a day playing and improving circa zero's songs (which mostly sounded like they should've been be called Synchronicity 14) and then get them into the grove for a day to do something better.....and then oysterhead, Inbetween juggling the other irons in various fires which SC has got at the moment. If you excuse the mixed metaphor.

I'm very upset about CZ, bates. I loved that band. They had the potential to be an awesome live band... if they actually played some shows. Even great players have to play together to get really good. That's why the Police was so good live- three great musicians who toured non-stop.

They got off to a great start with a national appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, all sorts of press and a couple of rock stations in LA. That's pretty good PR.

They should have immediately hit the road, not necessarily for a major tour. They could have hit, say, 30-40 major cities in the U.S., Europe and Asia. They should have set up interviews with local papers and radio stations in those cities.

You have to create a buzz.

I think, however, they were too particular about the clubs they were going to play. Andy Summers, for example, refused to play SXSW because of the venue and time slot they were given. Not a good move when you're trying to promote a new band. I guess he forgot the lesson and experience of the Police.

I read that Tweet you mentioned. I feared there was a problem when it was quickly deleted. Too bad.

I hope they're not dead. There were many good songs on that first CD. Most reviews were pretty good. And they were supposedly working on a second CD.

Well, I didn't know that... That's the sort of thing that would really piss off other band members, isn't it? Working hard to promote stuff and the other bloke in thee band doesn't want to do it. Suddenly all the reasons why the band could have been good become reasons for it to wither on the vine.

I hear you, jerseyfan. I'm wondering if Andy is more imposing in the business side of a band than we realize. I heard an "Off The Record" special recently about the recording of Synchronicity. Among the other topics included in the interview with Andy was a scathing blast of the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony. Andy was not shy about his distaste of the whole affair, from Sting clearly having no desire to be there, to the seating arrangements at the tables and Steven Tyler and the rest of 'em joining the band on stage during Every Breath You Take, which clearly seemed to piss off Andy.
