I thought Stanley Clarke got away from the Scientology cult in the 90s...sad if that's not the case (usually someone who has left the Co$ would be the last one invited to/allowed to any event.)
Those people will not let someone be...especially if you just say you're "curious" to find out what the crazy is about! Back when I was in college (oh lord 20 years ago) they had a center near my school and used to try to stalk students...once I let one of 'em give me a copy of Dianetics just because I wanted to read it for the LULZ (that was all it was good for) and get rid of this guy from trying to talk to me about it any longer. For over a year afterwards they used that as an opening to keep pressing at me to follow up, looking up my dorm address to send me letters, even finding my home phone number while I was back on summer vacation...that was more than enough to scare me away. That and I happened to know someone who was involved in the Lisa McPherson investigation so I heard a lot more about what was up with them before the 'net started breaking open their secrets.
If you don't know why these people are so scary, crazy and dangerous I suggest starting here:
