'83 US Festival - Days 1-3 DVD

Quite a few bands are strangely absent from this release. Hmmmm.

As I recall, the Police performance from the 1982 US Festival is to be released, complete with an interview with Stewart.

I don't know why the Police performance in the 1983 festival isn't included.

it might have to do with the fact that The Police didn't play this festival in 1983... just an idea...

I had thought they played both years, but see now that, per usual, Diemar is correct.

That would be a logical reason why they weren't included.

Missing Persons WAS awesome. She was doing Lady Gaga stuff, like wardrobe etc, waaayyyyyyy before gaga was even born lol.

And let's not forget Van Halen's infamous drunken stupor of a set where DLR forgot the words. Classic. But not even a mention here.

Where did you hear this?

As far as I know, this is sadly not correct...

...but that's only for the documentary. There has never been any mention as part of this film's promo that the Police's -or any other bands - performance from that show will ever be released in and of itself. Tragic but true!

I am also very disappointed to learn the Police are not part of the release.

If you watch the linked video promo with Stewart and the included clips of the Police, it certainly gives you the distinct impression that our favorite trio will be featured in the video.

At the end it says, "US Festival 1982: The 'US' Generation, Coming Labor Day 2012

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqDq37ZvRbo

There's an update from September on Facebook stating that distribution negotiations are still in the works. So we may still see the 1982 release with the Police.

BTW, Ian Copeland has a great account of how the Police got a $500,000 fee to play US. According to Ian, that was many times the normal fee. Bill Graham, the promoter, was furious with Ian. But the Police anchored the festival and attracted others to join in.

Keep in mind, that's a half-million dollars 31 years ago. That's huge.
