Oh, dear. This is even more pedestrian faux-Police than I was fearing it would be.
It's more than a little embarrassing. Andy was making much more interesting music when he branched out and did those records with Robert Fripp 30 years ago....
Thanks for posting, I was curious about this band.... :/

I'm really loving this band. It's not possible to fully judge from one song, but I think they're really good.

I also enjoyed their acoustic performance on the radio. Here's the link in case you missed it:

Think about this: They rehearsed for just a few days. Emmanuelle Caplette was not even involved in recording the album.

BTW, they're not trying to sound like anybody. It's a new band with new songs. However, any member of any band is going to sound at least a little like what we're used to regardless of who they play with.

Bono will sound like Bono even if he joins the Rolling Stones.

Stewart WAS Copeland 100% when he joined THE DOORS

giovanni, it's interesting that you mention Stewart's style.

When I watch him on YouTube playing live with Animal Logic, I think he adjusted his style. There certainly are many signature Copeland sounds with AL, but it was not the same as Stewart from the Police.

It's great, isn't it? Their other album, "Bewitched", is also excellent.

Back onto Circa Zero, as much as I am sure some people will like them, I will personally eat my hat if anyone bothers listening to their music 10 years from now. I've heard a couple songs and there's nothing really distinctive about them at all except for Andy's idiosyncratic guitar playing - which was arguably put to more artful and interesting use in the past. Still, nice to see him on stage doing rock again, and I'm glad he remains interested in the whole "band" thing.

Sure, Circa Zero is not in the same universe as I Advanced Masked and Bewitched (two of my favorite CDs of all time). However, I think it is unduly harsh to say that it is embarrassing. Sure, the drummer makes the mistake of trying to be too STEWART-y. But I think you can enjoy it for what it is, which I think is Andy having fun. Personally, I like it for what it is -- a good change up from Andy's typical post-Police stuff (which I generally love).

As far as STEWART's playing in Animal Logic, I think that was simply the result of the dynamics of playing with very different people than who he had been playing with with the Police. However, to me, he was still STEWART.
There is no bigger gong.

I have to agree with tj7 on this one.

Andy in a trio with Stewart influenced drummer and a singer songwriting bass player, it's just too close for comfort and will be subjected to unfavorable comparisons, including mine.

There is nothing new or personal about this band IMHO. Maybe they'll find their voice later, who knows?

Still, is good to see Andy playing well and... what the heck, he has nothing to proof to anyone at this point. He is clearly just having fun.
