QUOTE

I was supposed to interview The Police during their Synchronicity tour, but as soon as they sat down, they all said basically, "This is a bad time, we just got off stage" and I just froze. I didn't know how to handle them. I looked off camera for a moment, and while my back was turned, Sting threw a bottle of water on one of the other members and they all just ran away and left me sitting there.

END QUOTE

Wonder who the "one of the other members" was?

You can see this incident during the first "end of the summer tour" Mtv segment that ran in 1983. I used to have it on my youtube page, but the entire account got yanked for "infringement" Stewart says "would you like to film me whupping Sting?" and Sting then throws water onto Stewart and they run off after each other. Andy was, as usual, caught in the middle.

I'll see if I can upload the video to a non-youtube site and link it.

I haven't had time to re-up my version, but the incident appears at the beginning of this video for MSNBC's interview of Andy. It doesn't totally match up to Martha's description of the event, but considering it was 30 years ago, perhaps she's remembering it slightly incorrectly, or possibly blending two different post-show interviews into one memory.

Not quite as bad as when Joan London interviewed Stewart a while later, but pretty close. I actually felt sorry for Sting in this one. The boys were a lot more tolerant than I would have been. Miles should have stopped it sooner.

Thanks EQ!
