Jones Beach 2. Man, that was a really great show. Hard to believe a better recording of "The Last Goodbye" at MSG was never circulated (no offense to Pluto).

People, Hell, and Angles, the "new" CD from Jimi Hendrix. The Hendrix estate claims this will be the last new disc of unreleased studio materials from the guitar god who died in 1970. It has a bit of the bottom of barrel feel to it. It is Hendrix so there are some incredible guitar bits. Valley of Neptune, the prior release of studio tracks is a better album.

Live at Leeds

Anyone with any appreciation for drumming needs to listen to it at least once every two months.

Led Zeppelin How the West was Won, the 2003 release of two 1972 concerts combined, which I recently bought.

Damn, this is great. Far better than the other live releases of the band, the Song Remains the Same, BBC Sessions, and the recent release of their 2007 reunion concert, Celebration Day.

John Bohnam's drum solo on the nearly 20 minute version of Moby Dick is incredible. Makes you release what was lost when he died.

Yes, Jimi is ahead of everything. Very little of his music seems dated today, unlike most music from the last 1960s. I listen to a LOT of Hendrix, more than anyone not related to Police or the Beatles.

A friend of mine recently told me this Hendrix-related story of a conversation he had with 7 or so year old daughter. His daughter was learning to play guitar and Hendrix was playing in the car. My friend told his daughter that the song was by Jimi Hendrix, the greatest guitarist ever. His daughter asked if she could be that good if she practiced really hard. My friend, honestly but perhaps not in the best parenting, said, no. No one can ever be that good. If she really practices she could be the second best ever which is really really good, but she was never going to be as good as Hendrix.

Nice story...well, he could have said that from Hendrix she could learn but the most important thing is to find her own style...that would be even better I guess...anyway, I have no children and sometimes only a parent can really know what to say to her daughter...
