HOLY CRAP NUTTERS! FRANKENSTORM'S A COMIN!

Here in the DC area very heavy rain and winds, but not as bad as I had feared.

Haven't (yet) lost power for more than a few seconds.

Our dog is soaking wet from his walks outside.

Will be home again tomorrow. A day home with toddler and no power could make a very long day, so hope the power remains on.

Have power (and coffee) in southeast Virginia this morning. But I'm wondering about Conroy, Nick and northward... fingers crossed for all. Please check in when you can.

All fine here. Never lost power. My lights blinked about half a dozen times. The worst part of it all was having to endure a constant barrage of monotonous $campaign ads during the nonstop coverage. I don't think there were ads for anything else. I was able to get out today and cast my ballot early. I did not see any tree damage just some shingles missing from a few roofs. It was definitely a lot better than after the derecho. The pressure in my all tires were really low so I had to go fill them with air. Hope all the nutters northeast of me are faring well, also.

Am praying that all is well at the sockii & dr vespa homestead, while they are abroad. And for DM, my NJ relatives (inland, not on the coast thankfully), as well as all the rest of y'all in this zone.
Am torn between being thankful that my folks, who TOOK OFF TO COASTAL NC!!!!! two days before-yikes! are fine, and devastated by images of Seaside Hts, and NYC/Long Island areas. My deceased Polish babjca's house is (was?) in Ocean Gate NJ, but no report/images online about that area.
God Bless y'all. I am glad to hear that the VA Nutters are so-far-so-good. Thnx for updates.

Just got an email from Dirtymartini. Power's out in their town - may be days before it's back up - but she and Moeskido are OK.

Thanks for sharing the news about DM and Moskido, smudge. And thanks to the rest who checked in. It was pretty small fry stuff here compared to in the States. Some power outages and uprooted trees in my neighbourhood is about all, and little to no flooding. We're very lucky. The pictures coming from the east coast are just heart wrenching.

Hey, Facebooking Nutters! Has there been any more news from our NY/NJ friends? Have they got power yet? Since Monday night, there's been radio silence on Twitter from the ones I follow.
It's awful to see places that hold so many happy memories for me in such utter shambles. I haven't seen pictures of Jones Beach, but I guess it's in pretty bad shape like the rest of the coast.
My sister used to live up the street from the South Ferry subway terminal. Scenes from there and the rest of the southern tip of Manhatten make me want to cry. I know how long & hard people worked to revitalize that neighbourhood after it was so badly scarred by 9/11. So much of it is destroyed again.
ETA: Right after I wrote this, DM tweeted that she's just got her power back after days of a candlelit lifestyle. Conroy, did my inquiry prompt you to send out the SC.NET bat signal?

Thanks for the thoughts, folks.

No power back yet for us, sadly: Mo and I used our last bit of gas to motor (and coast) up to Nancyrose's place, where we're back in the light and heat and internet. Power, phones, and net are all down in my town; estimates are 7-10 days still. (Sure hoping for sooner, though.) Getting to work is impossible with the transit situations as well, so we brought a ton of computer equipment to set up basecamp here for a few days.

It's bad at home (power lines down, trees down, a number of houses crushed), but we didn't flood, no casualties in my town that I'm aware, and it's nothing like down the shore, etc., so all in all, could have been worse.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Checking in as well here in southern NJ,

vespa and I were EXTREMELY lucky - our house was literally in the eye of the storm, and so somehow Gloucester County avoided the worst of the damage. Our catsitters reported that our power didn't even go out and there wasn't even that much rain here, just some heavy winds. We didn't lose any trees or anything. We were able to get home from Italy on Thursday night - ironically, while having to deal with Venice's worst acqua alta at the same time (I stayed up all night before our flight as our street was going to be completely flooded out...watched the shopkeeps waiting and drinking and praying the floodwaters wouldn't go past their barrier gates, then lugging luggage through the water to pray our boat-taxi could even dock...but that's an adventure to share for another time.)

However, my mother is still dealing with nightmarish conditions in New York just over the Jersey border. She has power at her house but there was considerable damage around the grounds, and her farmhouse may not get power back for another week. That's with nearly 50 animals that need copious amounts of water every day. O&R seem to have no interest in prioritizing her situation despite being one of the last active farmers in the county so I don't know what is going to happen at this point - and I can't even easily plan a trip up to visit/help her with the transit issues and gas rationing going on in the state.

Having no power for 7 - 10 days sounds pretty awful.

I am glad everyone is well though.

Thanks for your updates, DM and sockii. And please keep them coming as this thing continues to unfold. With talk of another storm looming off the coast, I think these threads are going to become more frequent. What Is It Doing Outside??? Love to all.
