Stewart & Cleveland Orchestra...

The Cleveland Orchestra is continuing its push for younger audiences through both the price and programs it’s lined up for the 2012-13 season. WKSU’s Kabir Bhatia has more.
The orchestra first offered free concerts for kids under 18 at Blossom Music Center last summer. And by the time it finished up the Blossom season last weekend, more than 23,000 under 18s had attended orchestra concerts there.

Now, it’s extending the “Under 18s Free” program to Severance Hall. Kids will get free tickets to all Fridays@7, Friday matinee, and Sunday afternoon concerts. And the Fridays@7 Series, which started four years ago, will open with music from the founder of The Police, Stewart Copeland, and feature a collaboration with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

The orchestra will also offer programs downtown and on the west side, and begin a Cleveland Orchestra Neighborhood Residency program with free concerts for residents in the Gordon Square area in May.

There are 350 professional orchestras in the U.S., many of which have been struggling to shore up finances and attract younger audiences. Last year, the Philadelphia orchestra became the first major US orchestra to file for bankruptcy protection.

Wow! Thanks to the eagle eyed sockii for this heads up. I do love me some Gamelan D'Drum even if Stewart is not in attendance. The concert is Friday Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. Who wants to go? It would be completely impractical for me to take in this concert ... so, yeah, I'll probably be there. Are there any enablers out there who can help me overrule the small sensible part of my brain that's telling me to take a pass on this?
Holy crap! I just checked and that Friday night kicks off the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend. This is getting more and more tempting.

Sadly it's out for me. I have a convention I'm scheduled to work that weekend in Maryland, and with what my car just cost me in repairs today I can't afford to blow off one of my best shows to go to a performance. Figures the first time D'Drum makes it out anywhere near me, I already have commitments!

Look forward to the reports from others, as usual...

Tempting to go. Probably won't happen.

The show will be on birthday, which would make a great birthday present. But my wife and son are unlikely to be able to go to Cleveland then, so I suspect I will be staying home.
SC-There are a few crazy people on this planet. Sure sign of that is that they kinda like my music

Bought my ticket today. Can't wait. Woooooo!!!!! I was in the front row at the Dallas premiere and I am purchasing (and recommending others considering going to purchase) a ticket up in the Dress Circle since it was very clear from the video that Stewart posted that you will miss a lot of cool stuff if you are down and close up to the stage. There were still a few good seats in the front row at the dress circle level when I purchased my ticket this afternoon.

This is starting to look less likely for me. My younger daughter just moved off to university and won't likely come home for a visit until Thanksgiving (Oct. 5-8). She has this crazy idea that I shouldn't be in Cleveland when she returns home for the first time.
I wish this was not a one off. You'd think they'd do more than one show when they make the effort to ship all their specially made instruments half way across the country.

Have a great time my nutter family! I'll be there in spirit. It's other's turn, as I got to experience it in the ice and snow of Dallas!

I did get a special SC treat which more than replaced this. :D

I'm officially out. My daughter bought her bus ticket home already and I'll have to pick her up from the bus terminal in downtown Toronto on that Friday. She thought it odd when I offered to send her money for the extra fare so I could pick her up from the terminal in downtown Cleveland.
Have a great time, y'all. I look forward to the reports!
