Police Vinyls?

Police Vinyls?

Postby Soundragon on 23 Jul 2012 13:28

Okay, so I'm getting prepped for my own recording studio some time down the road, and I'm trying to collect seven different vinyls of my favorite albums to place on the walls. Nothing fancy like signed/demo/rare vinyls, just plain old vinyls in good condition. Four of the seven vinyls I'm after are Police albums. Most notably:

• The Police
* Ghost in the Machine
• Outlandos D'amour
• Regatta De Blanc
(Possibly a fifth:) Zenyatta Mondetta
(Pardon my spelling on all of the above...)

I'm just curious as to how hard these vinyls are to find. I've looked around some local flea markets and recently found one that had a huge collection of the big names in 80's and 70's vinyls – all except for The Police. (Though I did manage a Sweet Baby James vinyl that was on my list.)
Again, not fancy-shmancy vinyls, just standard vinyls with their cases in relatively good (looking) condition. Does anyone know a good place to look online, maybe EBay or Amazon perhaps? Or should I just keep checking flea markets locally?

Also, does anyone know where a guy can get a nice display case for vinyls at a decent price...?

Many thanks!

Nothing thrills me like composing music, except for hearing it in the media I'm composing music for.

I am an obsessive vinyl collector and hit record stores wherever I go. I see all of their studio albums on vinyl all the time, around $8-10 (condition vg+ and up). I even picked up a copy of Regatta released in 2 ten inch format day before yesterday--ten bucks.

If you want to display them out of the cover, a 12 x 12 frame might work--I was just shopping for live show poster frames at Michael's yesterday and saw that size, as well as 13 x 13...

I couldn't tell where you are located, so hopefully this is relevant!

I don't think they are that hard to find, but quality will vary greatly.

BTW, I don't see how this is OT at all

ebay has them for 1.99 a piece and 2 bucks or so shipping... i often see them all listed together...like...

get all 5 of the Police albums!!! 9.99 and 4.99 shipping..you just got to look...

as far as signed...I have collected all 5 of thier albums signed by all three....you can get those for under 50 if you are patient....

Good luck...also dont forget the picture discs! The police have some good ones, including no wave that looks like a pizza!
Stay ready...to cut and run.

Sure, they are all easy to find and they have been reprinted in 2007/2008.

what is awesome in vinyl is the 'purple colored' syncronicity..
You can only tell its colored vinyl and not standard black when you put it up to a strong light source.. you can see through it as its light purple.Soundwise ( and musicwise) one of my best vinyls out of my LARGE collection!

It's usually pretty easy to find copies of those albums around, at record fairs, shops or on ebay or other online resources. They have been also reprinted lots of times so you may even get a brand new copy at a record store.
It would be more challenging if you decide to fill your walls with all the cover variants of Synchronicity, now that would be tough!

i'd say use the record frames which are everywhere but price varies a lot.

we've got 9 in 3 rows of 3 in the lounge.... the sleeves get changed fairly often. My wife picks them in rough colour schemes from my 2,000 odd records, happily she always picks one or two i really like.
at the moment we've got a light blue, greeny colour scheme:
top row:
Eberhard Scheoner - Video Flashback
The Police - Outlandos D'Amour
Slowdive (English early 90's shoe-gazers ) - swirly 12"

middle:
The Beautiful South - welcome
The Who - Tommy
The Three Degrees - Take Good Care

bottom:
Peter Gabriel - Wet
Sting - Love is 7th wave 12"
Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn

We have some, too (12" frames from Michaels). The records therein are mostly Hoodoo Gurus releases (Mr D is a big fan), tho also a Paul Kelly signed copy of So Much Water and a Wanda Jackson signed 10" (which she personalized after I told her I wanted to be just like her when I grow up ;)

What a fun idea. I've just got three "hanging around" in various places: my original copies of Meet the Beatles and Abbey Road, then my second copy of Ghosts In The Machine (another "what was I thinking?" moment) is on the wall of my "Precinct ".

I saw them with Drivin & Cryin in '89 or '90. I may still have an autographed flyer, I'll let you know if I can find it.
