OT - Quadrophenia Tour 2012-13

Postby TheEqualizer on 19 Jul 2012 05:48

Anyone interested? When I last saw them on the Endless Wire tour, Roger's voice was shot, but Pete was still great. And I want to see how Zack plays the material now. When I saw Quadrophenia in 1996, this was Zack's first tour with the band. He was amazing. A revelation. Really renewed my interest in the band live after the disappointment of Simon Phillips (an awesome drummer, but just did not work out with the Who). Also, in 1996, Pete only played electric guitar on one song. I expect Pete to play mostly electric on this tour.

My home town show will be in a tiny venue, which should be great. However, I see the ticket prices are far more than the other venues ($850 for the best seats). That is the major downside of living in Vegas.

Man, if you don't love Quadrophenia, you don't love drumming.

Tickets on sale to the general public 7-27-12.

They are playing such a small venue in Vegas, I am worried about getting a ticket.

I did. The show essentially sold out very quickly (only singles were available within an hour). By the end of the first day of sales, the only tickets that were available were "Platinum" tickets - Ticketbastards "legit" self scalping.

I passed because I saw Roger when he did a brief "Tommy" tour a year or two ago in addition to several Who shows over the past 20 years. I'm glad I got to see the whole thing performed (besides in a great high school musical a friend's daughter was in) but I felt Roger's voice wasn't carrying an arena anymore. If they were doing this at venues one level down in size I might have gone for it. But they have several shows near me so I may end up going at the last minute.

I haven't bought tickets yet but I'm sure I'll go. Quadrophenia is one of those...well, THOSE albums for me, I can't miss it performed live again. I went multiple times in '96 to that show and I don't really care how they compare to their peak at this point; it's just something I have to do. (I still have the t-shirt and had a minor freakout recently realizing it's now 16 years old, oh my god.)

(At least in Philly area there are ALWAYS good tickets available at the last minute thanks to Comcastix' greedy corporate ticketing, so I'm not sweating it at all. And I refused to pay mega bucks for crap seats in the presales when I know I'll be able to get better seats closer to show date.)

I thought Roger sounded alright at the Olympics, so I am hopeful.

Saw him at the Ryman a year or two back (with Simon Townshend) and he sounded great - reports of his voice being blown, IMO, are, well... overblown. ;) Grabbed a couple tix for our local gig - about the 8th row of my favorite seated section, which rocks. Looking forward to beginning to read the show reports!

The tour has begun in Orlando. Some technical problems the first night which caused Pete to walk off stage during the encore and not return, but apparently things were all better by night 2.

And if you had any doubt whether this tour would be any good:

I like how they did it this time. It's not bogged down by unnecessary narration
