I think you'll find a lot of variety in answer to that question!

Myself, I was a tad late to the party - I originally became (gasp!) a Sting fan after Dream of the Blue Turtles came out (I was in my early teens so had just kind of "missed" The Police). But after diving back into their catalog became primarily a Stewart fan and followed all of his solo projects and soundtrack work for years after that. So I never got to see the band perform together until the Reunion Tour, although I'd seen each solo in concert previously.

lol johnny 2000 i have been fan since i was a teenager and i am maybe bit older than you i am 47. i didnt see them in concert when they were band many years ago but i was lucky to see them in orlando florida when they did reunion concert. to this day it was one of best days for me. my friend bought me a ticket and even though i love my children it was the first trip i took away without them and i got to see florida for a few days, so it wasnt just the concert but also a vacation which i dont get to do much. but when i was teenager i bought the tapes they made and would listen always. i remember once a tape was eaten in a player and i was so sad but i saved money to buy a new one of it. now i have the cds and still listen and my 4 wonderful kids listen to them to

I have to admit, seeing the reunion tour in Toronto did bring a tear to my eye.

Now what about that live version of 'Message in a Bottle' .... did any of you experts find it?

I don't think that it's that gig. It sounds similar, but not quite. OK, there are a lot of overdubs but I don't think the guitar mishap at the beginning would be an overdub. And the vocals - there are a lot of differences.

I could be convinced the Drums are taken from the Gussman Theatre 1979 show, but all else has been redone over top of that recording.

The drums are identical even down to the missed snare at 4:07-4:08 where it seems he is reaching for another stick.

On the original live BBC recording, Sting's voice is hoarse and he ad libs in a few spots absent from the 1983 release. Also Andy's parts are completely redone and the guitar Synth at the start appears to be him tapping in at a later date. Yes, odd that they wouldn't easily mix that out, but maybe they liked it.

So it would appear that it is Miami, but only in about a 20% capacity. I wouldn't be expecting the polished 80% studio version you currently enjoy.

I have not heard the Gussman Theatre 1979 show ... but if they re-recorded pretty much all of the instruments and vocals for a 'live recording' ... that seems like a crazy amount of work, but it might explain why the whole gig is not more widely available or known (which was my initial question 'where's the rest of the gig?').

Those who have the Gussman Theatre 1979 show, is it a bootleg worth tracking down?

I thought I knew a lot about The Police and their live bootlegs, but then I came here and met a whole new breed !!
Great stuff !! Thanks to you all.

The page devoted to the Wrapped release on the The Police site does not discuss MIAB. Perhaps if anybody here is a member of Sting.com, you can ask for the info. (I believe they administer the Police site.)

In case you have not recently visited the Police site, the discography section has become a lot more detailed.

BTW, if you want to laugh at the review of a serious hater of our favorite trio, read the review of the Wrapped 12" release. It's a hoot. Scroll all the way to bottom of the link.

Here's how it starts:

Amongst the talentless menagerie of nauseating narcissistic no-hopers who constitute today's chart 'acts' few are more revolting than this toad-like trio of dyed blonde pop midgets.
