Apparently, it's not the same old thing as yesterday.
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.

Very good! I'd never have thought of that heading.

That's as good a picture as anything I've seen in the papers today. I'm ashamed to say I slept through it.

Apparently the next time will be in about 117 years so I'm fairly confident I'll be asleep again then.

Dear lady, you're a genius. It's a shame that 'That's the second planet from the sun making a rare transit up there', doesn't really scan...

A local astronomy club brought some filtered telescopes out for public viewing, and I held my cell phone up to the lens. If I'd known that I'd be going there right after work (a friend invited me at the last minute), I would have taken my Canon and the pic might not have the whitish glare on it. But it was still really cool to be able to see it.

Great picture, luna (or should we call you sola just for this occasion?) Thanks for sharing it. In the other pictures I've seen of the transit, Venus was closer to the top of the sun. Does that have to do with where in the world the picture was taken, or about when in the course of the transit the picture was taken?

I really don't know why it looked closer to the bottom when I took the photo. Maybe it was the location and time of day (almost sunset in Alabama), or maybe it was the filter on the telescope I was looking through?

I just took that one pic, and it took some adjusting with my cell to get it in focus. But a lot of other people were waiting to look through the telescope at this historic event, and I didn't want to hold them up.

I've seen a lot of photos of the Venus transit that are much better than mine, but hey, this is the one I took and it's good enough for me. It's always best to be honest about your own work, right?
