This will be part of a documentary about US festival to be released in september !
"Milwaukee, WI – May 7th, 2012 – ICON Television Music, UNUSON Corporation and Plum Moving Media announce the making of the definitive 1982 US Festival feature length documentary.
“This film is the only authorized and sanctioned documentary of the 1982 US Festival”, according to Carlos Harvey, CFO, UNUSON. ”It captures the cultural essence of the festival and tells the behind-the-scenes stories the fans will appreciate. I’ve had thousands of calls & emails from attendees over the years about when we’ll release a film about the US Festival. After 30 years it seems like the right time so the fans can relive the experience and we can create new fans too”.
On a blistering hot Labor day weekend in 1982, legendary Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak’s vision played-out in the 110 degree California sun.
Over 375,000 people gathered at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernadino, for three days of music and technology. The festival stage was built with the largest sound system constructed at the time. Over 400,000 watts of sound power combined with the first ever large scale video-trons used for live stage performances. Technology exhibits in five air-conditioned tents displayed the latest in cutting-edge computers, software, video games and electronic musical devices.
“The US Festival was not a charity event”, stated Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple and CEO of UNUSON. “It was a rock concert to bring music, technology and people together. It was an event to unite government, industry, science and education to improve the quality of life for everyone.”
Woz was keenly aware that computer technology was about to bring access to information to the masses like never before. He wanted to present the computer as a humanizing force in society. And so, the US Festival was a celebration, a coming-out party for the technology and the US decade. In a way, the US Festival was the birthplace of the first computer generation.
“The current boom in computer technology offers us one of the best ways to bring people together. I don’t know where this will lead, but if we have communicated the power of working together to the quarter million or so of you here at the festival, and shown how effective future technology will be in helping us do that, we feel that we will have been successful.” – Steve Wozniak, 1982
The documentary will feature legendary performances and interviews. The concert headliners included:
~ B-52′s ~ Fleetwood Mac ~ Police ~ Ramones ~ Santana ~ Talking Heads ~ Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Exclusive interviews with Steve Wozniak and UNUSON President, Carlos Harvey reveal how Woz’s vision and 57 acres of desert park was transformed into the world’s largest outdoor amphitheater. With the enlistment of renowned concert promoter, Bill Graham, the stage was set for a world-class 80’s cultural event.
Glenn Aveni, the films’ Director and President of ICON Television Music, Inc. brings back to life incredible performances from the premier artists of the decade. Original video footage and audio tapes will be re-mastered combined with new interviews shot in high definition. The film chronicles the people, events and history that lead to the creation of this iconic festival.
“As a filmmaker and musician, what stands out is the resonance of Wozniak’s original idea – “Unite Us In Song”, and the fact his vision and humanity are felt 30 Years later in the way we all access music, mostly through Apple products of today such as iTunes, iPod etc.”.
Participant, artist and event organizer interviews uncover some of the “making of” stories and misconceptions that have become urban legend over the years.
“The release of the documentary will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the event on Labor Day, September 3rd, 2012", said Bruce Gibb, co-owner of Plum Moving Media, Inc. “Our Milwaukee based company is delighted to be partnered with UNUSON and ICON. It is our love of music and Apple products that attracted us to be involved in this project, plus our skills and experience are suited for telling this story.”
