Backpacking store job?! (ears perk up)

Hooting at Sock's avatar...bet there's a tale there...

Went veg, mostly, back in October but am still eating shrimp and whatnot. Mr. Dive has learned a couple of terrific Indian recipes - anyone got one for saag paneer? I am nuts about that cheese they use.

LOL, only that I hate these things LIKE THE PLAGUE. And in South Jersey it seems every soccer mom has to brag about how many spawn they're toting around in their SUV while on the cellphone and ignoring the road. In a way it's a warning sign of a driver to avoid, I just wonder how many families realize it's also baiting creepers to stalk their cars to steal kids...(the worst are the ones that even have NAMES UNDERNEATH THE STICK FIGURES. Like, way to make things easier for the paedos...)

Sadly no but if he's got a good recipe for Chala Masala I'd be all over it.

My body thirsts for blood, so I can never go veg fully, but I do love some good meatless meals from time to time.

Tried to do a BBQ for the kids tonight but completely failed to get it going properly so had to surreptitiously grill stuff in the kitchen. Plonker!
Cheese comes as standard. From Ben Hur to Borough Market, we've got it covered.

I am waaay not a vegetarian (nothing against that, as Mrs. EQ is mostly vegetarian) but I would also be interested in a good saag paneer recipe. The mom of Indian friend from law school (from Wisconsin no less) made a killer homemade Indian cheese, but this was a family secret.

Great. Something else to make me hungry! Like the food network.

I can sense this morphing into a recipe thread.

I'm sure empty has a plethora of yummy vegan creations to share......

Who me?? Why YES, I do have some good vegetarian meals to share- and VEGAN as well.

Was veg for many years, kinda got bullied out of it during my marriage. Outnumbered. Been mostly veg again since divorce, and pretty much vegetarian since Roberto and I got together. I became a vegan about 3(?) months ago. It's been pretty fun being challenged in the kitchen again.

And the faux meat? SO much better now than a couple years ago!

I made a delicious broccoli and mushroom (vegan) risotto the other day. To die for!

I think, tho', I may make a nice skillet of cornbread tonight to go w/-not sweet, thank you, regular (here's a regional debate just waiting to happen!).

Blackeyed peas, butterbeans, collards, and unsweetened cornbread. You must have some Southern roots.

That's good eatin'.

If you come to my place, you eat like a king. I must say that I need at least 48 hours notice, especially in the spring. In Canada, spring is the best time for local asparagus. It's amazing. Also, I need at least 24 hours marinating time for the steaks. Grain fed cows, who led a healthy lifestyle, but had depression issues and killed themselves. It's not called mad cow for nothing.

Joking aside, my steak is fall apart ready before it hits the grill. Add some corn, and mashed potatoes that I will never give the secret of, and I have a whole lot of people wanting to move to Canada. Don't even get me started on the local bakery that makes a cherry cheesecake that you would kill someone for. I love small towns

Here's a discussion of the sweet/savory regional cornbread divide:

Criminy. You know, that never would've occurred to me...I don't know anybody with those gross stickers, but if I did I'd feel compelled to say sumpin'.

Mr. Dive is a little wrapped up on the computer right now but I'll bug him later for his Indian recipes. Smartest thing I ever did was marry a guy who can cook... I'm not totally culinarily impaired, but he's really gifted. I'd wash up fifty sinks worth of pots & pans for one of his Friday night pizzas, which I'm already looking forward to. Mmmm.

I think about going vegan, but right now I'm mostly working on kicking my addiction to leather goods...

Do you get Quorn over there empty? I use it a lot and it's very nice cooked or raw.

Tonight I'm making quorn, vegetable and cashew nut stir fry. mmmm

Alex, you're making me drool (and laugh). I'm a small town convert as well, especially now that I'm in one of the last remaining vestiges of real farming country in New Jersey. I keep waiting and waiting for the roadside stands to open up again for the season - there is nothing like fresh peaches, nectarines, eggplant, peppers and berries picked right from the farm that morning. Oh, and don't even get me STARTED on the Jersey tomato!

I'm growing a lot myself this year - have an entire Italian herb garden started (seeds direct from Italy), two different varieties of heirloom Italian tomatoes, purple cabbage and cauliflower, peppers, fennel, kohlrabi, Italian squash and I'm trying to start some artichoke plants as well. There's nothing like small-farm pastured pork and beef, either - we've had such good results with the two hogs from my mom's farm so far we're probably taking one of the beefers to the butcher this spring - once we buy another deep freeze or two for all the meat. And maybe have our own turkey for Thanksgiving since she's been raising a group of heritage whites for two years, and it's time to thin out the young Toms a bit...
