Ok, not wierd, just FUN: Seeing 4 of the fellows in the 2nd yr. studio on the Main floor in Cowgill Hall (VPI Arch. Bldg.) push a few of the sturdy work tables together so they could jump up a nd dance w/ abandon to Regatta D'Blanc! All the way thru 3 times, no less.......A fantastic vision at 2 am as I was heading thru the adjacent Lobby home.

The first one was back in 1985. I was 18 and my parents sent me to London to learn English. My plan was to buy every single of the Police that was available, because I wanted to discover Shambelle, Landlord, Visions of the night and all that stuff that was not on any LP record and was not possible to get in my country Switzerland (of course there was no internet at that time). So I entered a Virgin store, looked at the price, made the conversion from Pounds to Swiss Francs and realize that I had not enough money. So for the entire month I spent in London I had only breakfast and skipped lunch and dinner for 30 days to save money for my records. I came back home with all those singles happy but very very hungry.
The second one was the same time the same place. I saw a huge poster of Sting on a wall in the street (advertisement for the single Love is the seventh wave). I had to have it. I waited midnight, got out with the knife, and cut delicately the sides and tore it in a hurry. All the time I looked back fearing that I won't be caught by ... the Police (I mean the real one)
And the third is when I crossed the Atlantic in November 2007 to see them in Atlanta for two shows(even if I saw them 5 times in Europe during that same tour) and flew back directly home after the second show. Everybody told me I was crazy to make such a long tripjust for them, but man it felt so good. I still now wear that smile on my face when I think about it.

Oh zorges,

You make me remember the "early days" of my fandom as well. Back in the 80s when I just had enough allowance money to send away for poorly-photocopied music collectible catalogs I'd find mentioned in the back of music magazines...I would save up for months to send away for one...just one!...Police single for the thrill of hearing a single b-side song I'd never heard before (it might cost anywhere from $15-30 for what now you can buy on eBay for basically a penny and postage). And then I managed to get a cassette copy of the Hatfield Polytechnic show and I thought it was the most amazing thing ever! Now you can download countless shows for free on line, but there's a part of me that misses the old thrill of the chase and the way every new discovery found was truly valued and listened to intently.

Sockii, I had Hatfield Polytechnic on a cassette too! It took me 5 years to hunt down all the singles through catalogs, for the B sides. No joke, 6 months later they were all released on cd, on Message In A Box. I still like the picture sleaves though. My original pressing of Fall Out is my favorite.

Two occasions stand ou for me when nerves got the better of me
Firsty at and Andy Summers book signing that was held at a nation park venue. It was a large house with guided tours through out and there was a guide in most the rooms to give a talk regarding each room. I explained when i got to the reception that i was threre for Andy summers book signing, the lady replied that Andy was walking around the house and gardens. I couldnt believe it and sure enough whilst killing time in one of the rooms in walked Andy Summers. There was another Police fan in the room and without any hesitation i went over and shook his hand. He was pleasent and i had a photo taken with him and so did the other guy. It was over in no time and a very sureal experience, whilst getting my thoughts together a guide approached and began given a tour of the room. I went through the tour as not to offend but inside i was bursting with al kinds of emotions.
Just before the book signing i grabbed my guitar out of the car and whilst heading back bumped into And again however he gave me a look to suggest he wasnt happy at me having my guitar. Then when inside there was a moment where the pens Andy was using to sign books wouldnt work. Andy then stated that whilst we wait hed sign my guitarbut would put my name on it. I was on the spot infront of everyone and nerves got a hold. I thought that he said he wouldnt sign it and just put my name on it so i refused. What a knob in front of everyone! When it was
my turn to have the book signed we cleared up the mis understanding on my part (guirtar signed) phew. He stated that he was concearned when signing items as they end up on ebay. When the signing had finished i went back into the room and Andy was still there,we had a disscussion re me being a fan and i assured him the guitar wouldnt go on ebay.
The second experience was meeting Stewart Copeland a Fopp in convent garden, another book signing. I met a guy there that i had initaly met at the Andy summers book signing. When i had my book and a Fall Out single sighed the guy asked me to take a photo of him and Stewart. Nerves got the better of me again and whilst having my habds full with my book and single and the other guys books and memrobillia. I attempted to take the photo, only my hand wouldnt keep still. This was well embarasing infront of everybody inc a few nutters! The security guy even made a comment about me needing a cigarette. Brad Sands who was Stewart came to my rescue and took the Photo.
These where two of the most surreal experiences for me and i cant beleive how my emotions, nerves adrenalin took over.

Mine was at backstage... I am a bit nervous inside but outside so fresh, recognizing people like Danny Quatrochi and chat with him in front of Stewart's assistant Brad Sand, then into Stewart's dressing room he made his spectacular entrance in front of me with his classic jump...and I only react saying to him "Are you the real Stewart Copeland?" and then reply me so fast "Are you the real Jose from Peru?" and it instantly produce a great laugh and smile between us...some of the gifts I gave was a deluxe edition of a tourism magazine about Peru with a cover that simulated an ancient peruvian pre-inca textile in gold letters it was inside a transparent plastic... Stewart said "Woow" and I with all the nervous I never removing from within (then in 2009 I know this magazine was also seeing and reading by Andy Summers when he visited Peru for a tourism trip)... also something particular was when Stewart excuse the band for didn't let me the chance to meet them into a rehearsal for singing with them...he said me something like: "I'am so sorry for not introduce you to the other guys, but after Dietmar's singing Sting refused to made another rehearsals with fans"  but bad for me    I never said him I play the bass the exactly lines of songs like "Message in a bottle", "Walking on the moon" and others...  another one where when I suggested Stewart to took a photo with me simulated the ancient pic he took with Brian James:
